Thought someone here might find these interesting. At the range on Saturday shooting a variety of weapons with a couple of friends. My son was shooting my Garand when he had a catastrophic case failure. I have never seen a case rupture like this one
Ammo was out of the can Korean surplus ammo, head stamp was KA73. Gun was not damaged nor was my son. The shell was ejected (part of it) and struck him in the forehead and as far as I can tell it was not an out of battery discharge. Fired another ~100 rounds after with no issues from the same can.
Had to use a broken case extractor to remove the top piece (Thanks finallygotabeltfed).
