The early hip-hop artists out of NYC grew up riding trains. The seats are narrow to the point that average sized guys can’t sit next to each other with their arms at their sides or shoulders straight. You learn to rotate one shoulder forward and let that arm lay across the thigh of the same leg, hand hangs down between the legs when relaxing. It becomes a learned posture and is ingrained in muscle memory if you spend enough time riding crowded trains. Women and anemic soy-boys don’t take on the trait because they tend to be able to sit comfortably with their knees together and arms at their sides. The wealthier city dwellers don’t ride the trains as often, if ever.
