I have a Rem 700 BDL in 308 Winchester, any clue as to how many of them were born in 308???? A few sites I checked don't even list it in 308. Mine was born in 1966 and has the 24 in barrel. Thanks in advance, Stash

I have no idea how many where built , maybe a trip over to 700rifle.com.
I know of a 1979 vintage "varmint" model in 308 win. Friends dad has it.

You may be able to get a response from Remington.

I remember emailing them when I had a 700 in 300WBY, and they were able to tell me when it was manufactured and stuff.

Morning.. I did contact Remington. That's how I got the date of birth. They were unsure of how many were made in 308 though. The 700 forum is about as helpful as the Rem owners forum. Brain Phart I went on Gunbroker and out of 5 pages of 700s there were only 2 listed. Both not regular BDLs though.

What your most likely running into by looking to see how many are for sale is people are keeping them.
Maybe I'm wrong but I find a lot of people will keep a 308 vs a 22-250 ,243 or other cal simple because of price of ammo? The BDL has been around for 40 years or so. Earlier models may or may not be better. In my little experience most guys don't give up a good bolt gun.
A BDL in 308 will most likely bring in no more in value than any other common cal.

Looking through blue book values 7mm,300 win and 350win demand a premium.

A friend has an old 2004 Gun Digest and the bdl isn't listed in 308. Not really concerned with value at all. Just curious on its history.. Thanks for the assistance.. Stash

Not sure what GD was listing but I'm sure the BDL came in 308 there might be years where it was not offered unless ordered in 308?

Check that Gun Digest again. Look at the caliber listings for the 700 ADL, then look at the BDL. My gun digest says the BDL is available in all calibers that the ADL is (which includes the. 308), plus a few more.
As far as I know, .308 has always been a standard offering in the 700 line.

Great thread. Wish I had a historic piece, but I have a VTR in .308. I may look for a more classically styled rifle in .270
