I have a Remington 870 youth 20 gauge I would like to use for deer hunting. I'll need an appropriate barrel, and the options are either a rifled barrel, or a smooth bore with a fixed improved choke. I want to use slugs. I know to use sabots in the rifled barrel or rifled slugs in the smooth bore.

I'm hunting in Mass planning shots well less than 100yds. I plan on shooting open sights, I like the challenge. Sabots are more accurate, but many times more expensive. Rifled slugs would allow much more practice for the same money, and at that distance, maybe the improved accuracy isn't much of a factor? With the smooth bore barrel, I could also use that at my HD barrel with buckshot, but I do have a bird barrel I can use, so that probably isn't a big factor.

Question is, which of the two setups should I go with?
