Rem Field combo at Dick's ?????

I got the online flyer from Dick's this morning and it had this:

That sounds like a GREAT deal. However when I click to get a picture, I get this:



Which looks like a Mossberg to me.

Anyone know if the Rem combo is really on sale for that price, or is it really the Mossy?

My guess would be that somebody in DSGs advertising department screwed up. Remington doesn't make a '500', and it looks like a Mossy.

The DSG's flyer with todays Boston Globe shows the same info. Remmy 500 combo. Misprint.

It's a misprint...It's a Mossy, which is still a great deal. I must have boresighted 100 of these last year. With the exception of one bad scope, they were a solid packace - especially for first time hunters looking for a "do-it-all" gun. You get:

26" ported, rifled, scoped cantilever deer barrel, cheek riser, sling mounts.

28" field barrel with 4 chokes and a lower cheek riser

$349.99

The only weak point in the package is the scopes - they're a fixed 2.5x and they are free, so don't expect a Nikon. The scope rings are surprisingly the strong point - they are really nice. I advise people to use the scope for a season and then replace with a dedicated variable power shotgun scope. Five of my customers reported nailing deer last season...If I were looking to get into the game, this would be my first choice for a budget minded complete system. Find an 18.5" HD barrel and you really have a complete system for short dough...

You know? They could be - I never really looked at the flyer that closely yesterday, as we were absolutley overrun. There is a mail-in rebate, so if that's the case, I would grab on in a heartbeat. I'm 99% certain that you can't find this package anywhere else, (perhaps Cabelas?)....Dicks makes deals with the manufacturers to put these packages together. In one case, I had a customer try and get us to lower the price on a Remington 700 SPS combo with a Nikon scope and Leupold mounts, (I think it was $649.99). I kind of cracked a smile and said: "Head up to another gun store and see if they will give you the same deal - after they laugh you out of the store, I'll have this boxed up and ready to go".... He filled out his paperwork and left happy...Despite popular mythology that Dicks and other big box have secret "buying power", it's not necessarily true - we get our guns from distributors who set prices just like everyone else. What Dicks and other bigger retailers do is package deals like the Mossy and low mark-up....
