If you recently got your genuine, surplus M-1 Garand from the CMP, and have been looking for a good opportunity to put it to work, be in Reading, MA on Sunday.

The match starts at 9:00 AM, but you probably want to be there by 8:30 AM by the latest. It consists of 50 rounds (20 rounds prone, 10 rapid prone, 10 rapid sitting, and 10 slow-fire standing) all shot at 200 yards. .30-06 ammo is provided. All you need is your safety gear, a mat or piece of rug, and your rifle. If you have attended a CMP clinic or shot a highpower match before, it shoud all be pretty straight-forward.

The rules of the Garand match include use of the M-1 Garand, M-1 Carbine, M1903 Springfield, M1917, or the Johnson Rifle. But you can use any military semi-auto or bolt action rifle - you just compete in a separate class.

It's supposed to be a beautiful day Sunday - come join me for the match! I'll be the one with the fatigues, funky DI hat and brown boots shooting a M1917 Eddystone.
