A few months back I picked up this old Remington Model 8 made in 1911. When I bought it I saw it had a crack in the foreend, but the price was very right and I went with it. About my third trip to the range the fore end completely cracked in half and fell apart. I tried to repair it to no avail. I went on line and began searching for a replacement forend. The first thing I found out is that originals are quite hard to come by and very pricey. First I found a place down south that makes a variety of stocks and I ordered a forend from them. It was clunky and rough cut, I was not impressed. I then found a fellow named Bob down in Surprise, Arizona who specializes in Model 8 stuff and makes custom stocks. On the forend he actually installs the little nut that the screw goes through to secure it to the rifle. I ordered one and had it within a week. Then spent 2 weeks slowly fine sanding, staining, applying layers of Tru Oil, letting it dry, repeating etc. anf finishing off with waxing. The results are in the pictures below and I am pretty pleased. I am looking into having it checkered to match the butt stock.
