Rent a Bushmaster ACR

All of these rifles were developed for the military's next gen rifle program, which was recently canned (again), correct? Therefore, what's the future of all of these new plastic rifles? Seems like without government contracts, the ACR is going to eventually wither away.

Not necessarily. That and the SCAR may sell to other countries and there's always the public market for them. There's any number of guns that only sell to individuals and that sustains production.

Also, consider the pistols that were developed in the same vein to replace the M9, the M&P series for example, they've been huge sellers in the LE and civilian markets since that project was scraped. It's kind of like the race industry, parts developed to go faster on the track make their way to the civilian automobiles.
