Residue left on the gun

New ammo, not really, old ammo, pretty; I wouldn't leave old corrosive ammo on there for more than a day or so.

Like doobie says, with new ammo its not really an issue. I've left some guns
dirty for a month or more before I clean them.

I left my 686 filthy for about a week or so before cleaning it- I was firing up some loads with 2400 powder and lead bullets, the whole thing had a nice musk of haze on the steel after I was done. Cleaned right up with some hoppes.

I try to clean my guns as soon as possible after I shoot them. I think it's easier to clean the residue off when it's still "fresh". but as others said, with newpro ammo, it's not a huge issue. toughest clean up I ever ran into was trying to get all the black off the end of the cylinder on my S&W 66 stainless after I had forgot to clean it and it sat dirty in my safe for a few weeks. I dont' shoot much corrosive, but when I do I get all psycho-anal about dowsing the gun down ASAP.

I have residue on my SW520 from probably 6-8 months ago.

No big deal, it'll wipe right off or keep shooting as is, without any problems.
