Do they? I had never read of it before, but I'm looking at mine, and it looks like a sheet of lead in there, in each charge hole. I'm at 90 rounds now; I *thought* I scrubbed it with the brass brush yesterday well enough, but maybe it's the buildup of all 90 rounds and not just the 15 from today.

[25 Winchester commercial SV LRN, 65 M&M wadcutter, new LCR. Barrel has some lead but not lots, really only on some near the forcing cone in one spot and then some streaks down the bore.]

Most of what you see is probably carbon deposits from the burning powder.

I have shot literally thousands and thousands of lead cast bullets through several revolvers and almost everything I see in the chambers is carbon. Carbon is a bitch to get out and the easiest way to get it out is to wet the chambers with a strong solvent like Clenzoil or Kroil, let them sit for a while, then chuck up a steel chamber brush (available at Brownells and Midway USA) in a drill and get after the deposits.

Note: do not do that in the bore. Just the chambers.

This is good advise. When I started reading I was like hold on a minute! Then I saw your note[smile]

Take a brass brush and wrap strands from a copper chore boy scouring pad around it and run it through the cylinders and bore.

I'll look again, but it was silver and flaking off.

ETA: yup, I peeled some off and it's lead. Well, I didn't taste it, but it's soft and malleable. Will brush it out and see if it returns.

Maybe you should slug the bore to see if the bullets are the right diameter for the gun. Too small will do it I believe. I read about that on castboolits.com. YMMV

Cylinder Lead

Get yourself a Lewis lead remover. 1-2 passes each time and you'll be done. Brownells or a well stocked gun shop carry them.
