I picked up one of these a few months back. I got the 38/357. And I really like it!
Practical? No.
Huge for a pistol? Yup.
Awkward and useless to shoot one hand? Uh huh.
Slow to cycle and bring up to target? Big time.
Completely lacking any sort of real world usefulness? Absolutely.

But, all those trivial things aside.. It is just a really fun and cool range toy. It is made, reasonably well. Fit and finish are well done. Wood quality is nice. Action is a bit rough (but will work out over time) and trigger is a bit gritty (again use will fix that).

But for those: Wanted Dead or Alive, Firefly, Rifleman and John Wayne fans, it is just a cool thing.

Yup...

i used to own one and hated myself for trading for it. on the random occasion that it worked when it wasn't being shipped back to taurus it was kind of fun, but aside from that it was a big HURRRRR moment for me.

i turned it into a S&W model 19 and i am happy with that. the current owner says there are no problems with it so i guess third time back to taurus is a charm. glad he's happy with it at least.

Stop, that was likely the best thing you ever did. Getting rid of that gun was like getting a divorce, and getting paid for it. [laugh]

Reminds me of when I "just had to have" a Marlin Guide Gun in .450 Marlin...Didn't make sense that I wanted it, but I just did - even with the $50.00 a box ammo... Then after the 5th shot, when my knuckles were bleeding from being peeled back by the lever, I was suddenly enveloped by the feeling I had made a mistake.... It was either that, or I was lightheaded from blood loss...[smile]

I made the same mistake with my revolver in the same caliber.

I love recoil - but that 450 Marlin was just stupid. I could perhaps have lived with it had they had a large loop - there was functionally nowhere for anyone with normal sized hands to grip that rifle. I called Marlin about it to no avail, then low and behold - they put a large loop on it, so I must not have been alone

The revolver was actually hysterical to shoot, but the ammo was so expensive and I don't reload. It would have been decent out of a lever gun, but it was punishing as a hand cannon. On second thought, my old 45/70 guide gun was kind of punishing in carbine form too.
