Ruger lc9 JUNK!

Zero problems with my LC9 (and my MK II). The LC9 with Crimson Trace laser is my carry gun. That being said, it's in need of a Galloway Precision trigger and hammer job and some beefier recoil springs. Real Soon Now.

The MKII never has any problems... besides the sights falling off.[rofl] They eat any ammo and run until soaked with carbon and crud. The LC9 trigger is the worst trigger in the gun world next to M&P's and Sig P250's. Definitely send in your trigger for some work done to it.

EDC mine for a year and 1k rounds through it. Had the trigger done by Mike L in Worcester. Not a problem, it is a Ruger and I like Rugers. Anybody that has one and doesn't want it send it my way. Save you the trouble of dealing with it.

I just ran about 40 rounds through a used LC9 I just bought. I really, really like it. It was pretty accurate for me, despite the long trigger (I'm a novice semi-auto shooter). It also handles really well, as I was somewhat concerned with recoil. It was fun to shoot.

My only real concern is the 9mm cartridge. I've owned +P .38 special revolvers in the past. Those instill confidence in personal protection when you shoot them. The 9? Hmmm... I dunno. Maybe it's the Blazer Brass 115 grain I was shooting through them? I suppose I should do some research on finding the right self defense round for these.

Anyhow, I was hesitant about the LC9 because of this and some other threads I'd seen around the interwebs. My initial impression is that this is a fundamentally very well-made weapon that may need a little tweaking or TLC to be it's best (sight issues aren't anything a little loctite can't fix, if you know what I mean). Don't hesitate.

I carry Hornady Critical Defense 9mm, don't worry me much

Check out the Speer Gold Dot +P Short Barrel. You can find data on them here: http://www.speer-ammo.com/ballistics/ammo.aspx

As a point of comparison, the muzzle energy of the 9mm is 364 ft-lbs, while the 38 Special is 222 ft-lbs.

Really?! The 9mm is the best cartridge for carry IMO. If you get a hot enough bullet (147gr Federal HST), it's kinetic energy is right around 525ft/lbs, which is similar to the 40 S&W.

After doing some research, that's what I've decided to get. But I also like what Federal is offering with the HydroShok, too. I will check into that, ColdDay.

Its ironic that I stumbled across this thread. Last night I had to re-set the trigger bar spring on my brother in laws LC9. Last week I replaced a hammer anchor pin on another. In may I removed the magazine disconnect on one because the owner hated dry fire practice because of it. The way the LC9 is put together is kinda cheap in my opinion. Ruger is an amazing company so when I tore my first one apart I was surprised to say the least. Anyone who has ever detail striped one will understand. When you slide the "inner" frame out of the nylon "outer" frame the safety, trigger bar, take down cover, and slide stop literally fall off the frame. If you own one and love it then that's all that matters. I am never surprised when I hear about problems though.

I'm sorry to hear this, but there isn't much out there in this size and price point. Even at almost twice the price the Kahr offerings have a lot of reported issues. Maybe Glock needs to make a gun even smaller than the baby glock? I just think there is a real need for a subcompact 9mm of the LC9's size. I don't think I would carry anything bigger than the LC9. I just wouldn't bother carrying at all if I had to.

My primary concern, especially in Commiechusetts, is not concealing my "concealed" weapon. We aren't in Texas, after all. People up here freak. Then you get trouble.

I completely hear ya. For the price it isn't that bad of a gun. I don't feel like Ruger is ripping people off by selling them either. And I would never try to talk any of my students out of buying one. The gun you have on you is better than the one that's home in the safe. My only hesitation with them is that I have fixed so damn many of them. I feel like it was just under-engineered to make it as small as it is.

Have you ever considered the Walther PPS? I have worked on probably 6 of them and was never disappointed. Actually I was so impressed with the gun I bought one and carry it daily. For a little more cash its a lot more gun (IMO).

You're over thinking it, really. If you don't completely blow concealment, most people are completely oblivious. A gun like a G26, G19, etc, is actually pretty easy to conceal most of the time. The pocket guns are better suited for isolated situations where you can't dress around a gun, but you still have pockets available.

I just wanted to use the word "Commiechusetts." [smile]

Tim, I was actually strongly considering the Walther PPS. I was short on dough this week, though, and was unable to find one used. That's something to consider eventually.

There are far better 9mm CCWs than the PPS. If you really liked it and have tried shooting one, then go for it. But Walther is pricy on parts, customer service is just okay, and their guns are just bland IMHO. The Shield is over hyped but it is a solid platform if you can get a free state trigger. Or you can try the SR9c out anytime, just PM me.

Or the G26 would also be a great choice if you're looking for a PPS style gun.

I appreciate the offer, ColdDay, but I don't think I would carry anything even slightly bigger than this LC9 or the Kahr. Even the PPS is just a bit longer than I would go, unless I was wearing out owb in an obvious holster, which I wouldn't be.

I've had problems with my LC9 since day one. They originally gave me one and i noticed something wrong with it before even leaving the store and the second one wasnt much better. I want the Ruger SR9C but can't get it due to my town only issueing me a class B license.

That's too bad, I really like the LC9 but these posts prevent me from buying one. It is rare to get one that functions near perfect and the trigger pull is so long. But what town gave you a LTC B?

Danvers there excuse was for me getting pulled over with an expired inspection sticker 8 years ago.

Love my sig p239 - sure a bit heavy but reliable as the day is long and can shoot about as rapidly as any 9 out there

While I agree that Sig makes high quality handguns, they are heavy and some triggers are beyond horrible. The good thing about the LC9 is the weight and the price. Sig offers a nicer CCW with the P239 and it's probably more reliable than the LC9, but I'm a huge Ruger guy and was disappointed at how many bad reviews the gun got. I'm very happy that I bought my SR9c which is an unbelievably awesome 9mm to shoot. Good luck to those who have been having issues with their LC9. Get the Galloway trigger kit!

The LC9 IMO isn't a gun I favor, but my buddy loves his, The rear sight did walk itself off after awhile, but I hand tightened it (no loctite or anything) it's been great since and he's put thousands of rounds thru it with accuracy. No issues. Ruger is a great company IMO at good prices.

This. I don't know what all the negativity is about either. I'm happy with my LC9. Even with the long trigger pull I can usually hit 3 or 4 out of a rack of 6 plates at 25 yards, which is waaay farther than I would ever expect to have to use it in a SD situation.
