I brought my Ruger SR1911 out to HSC last night and in the middle of my practice IDPA run I noticed I could not get a proper sight image. When I completed the run I was not surprised why:

I found another instance online where the same thing happened and the poster said Ruger sent them another sight, is that an easy fix to do? I am kind of surprised at such a blatant failure. Aside from this I have the other common SR1911 issues: very lose trigger and safety and the grips came off on the first time out. It also does not play nice with Blazer aluminum, I get a lot of FTFs. Until the sight failure nothing too crazy but overall - kind of leaves me with the old adage - you get what you pay for.

Sights are easy fixed by a gunsmith. I'd change them both out anyways, as I don't like the factory sights.

Sorry to hear the issues you are running into. From what I hear ruger is pretty good about taking care of things. Good luck my friend! When I had my SR1911, it was flawless, admittedly, the trigger did feel a bit loose but even Smiths I own and a friends colt has wobbly trigger. (Not sure if thats the same issue) Hope all the issues you are having gets resolved.

Holy crap! You focused so hard on the front sight it got blown right off!

Seriously, that sucks. Ruger will make it right.

I didn't know what this thread was about until I saw that front sight.

The poor SR1911, Ruger will replace the part, they have excellent customer service. I can't wait to pick mine up.

Another Ruger should make it right, they do have good customer service that I have experienced.

That sucks. Ruger took care of me with mine and I'm sure they'll do the same for you. Haven't had any trouble with looseness or breaking bits and mind's my EDC... Maybe complain about the entirety of the problems and they'll swap you out a new one?!

Not any issues with my 1911. Loose grips is nothing. Put some blue loctite on them and call it a day. Sights are also easily swapped out. I love mine, and I am entered in a raffle right now to hopefully win another one.

Yeah don't get me wrong I love the thing, broke my heart when I saw I would be out of practice for a bit, I will be sending it back this week and I know Ruger will fix it. Might be time to grab a 9mm for Wednesdays...

They will make it right. They have great customer service. Maybe should have just asked them to send you a replacement sight, and had your smith, or your local gun shop put it on. That way you weren't without a gun.

Ruger will take care of you.

Before SHTF I was able to drop off an old Single-Six in NH back in the '90's.

They stated that they appreciated the loyalty and I would get my guns in a few weeks or so.

I had some custom grips and some other work that I paid for but they went above and beyond.

They sent it to me early the next week and followed up with a phone call to see if everything was to my satisfaction.

They replaced many other parts for free and still sent back the old original parts as one was worth more to me than the price of it.

I was told if I EVER had a problem with one of my Rugers to send it back with a note telling them everything that I thought was wrong and they would check it out. They seem to spend more time on these customer return problems to keep the customer happy.

It is a shame that you have to send it back but I would put in a nice letter telling them what you wrote above: You like your 1911 and train with it.

Good luck.

I've had absolutely no issues with my SR1911 in 5 months. It eats anything I put in it including Blazers. Sorry to here of your troubles but Ruger should take care of you.

I won't buy a Ruger until the model is on the market for a few years or more because there always seems to be some kind of issue. After they work out the kinks, they make a great gun. It's like they go for a trial by fire method of QC sometimes.

My SR1911 has always fed and shot every round I've fed it flawlessly as well... I must say, however, that I did have an issue where the barrel was getting harder and harder to pull out of the slide during break down for cleaning.

Turns out that the slide was peening on impact with the frame. Ruger fixed it at 100% their cost (including shipping both ways) and I haven't had a hiccough since!
