Saw Ruger developed a 1911 Commander and I had to have it. Not a fan of the 5" 1911s, they just look goofy to me. This one with the 4.25" barrel looks amazing, and feels the same.

Only complaint is the lack of checking, the front of the grip can be a bit slick. Other than that it's awesome. Great sights, great trigger, looks beautiful, Made In America, and with my discount through work I only paid $408 for it.

Can't wait to shoot it on Sunday.

I am with you on preferring a Commander-sized 1911 over the full-sized version.

But I do have to say you stole it at $408!

Yes, Four Seasons is selling them right now.

$408?? What kind of work do you do?? They retail at $650-$700 at any gun shop, just like the full size SR1911 that I own.

This. Holy shit. I know that dealer pricing on the SR1911 is around $580? Maybe a little less or more. No way under $500. Shit they could sell that gun for $900 MSRP.

Congrats though! That gun is sexy and I don't even care for anything but the 5" 1911's.

That's a beautiful rig. I'm taking off the training wheels and water wings getting on the 1911 band wagon. Love the looks of the Ruger (I prefer the 5" model) as well as the Sig Stainless. I hear great reviews on the Remington R1, just not crazy about the looks.

Is the commander short slide full grip?

Yes. Officers are shorter grip/barrel, maybe that's what you were thinking of. Funny, the OP thinks the full size is goofy looking. Weirdo [laugh]

Sig is the worst one out of those. They don't even fit standard 1911 holsters. Also, the R1 Enhanced is a real nice gun, but $200 more than the SR1911.

The new Sigs actually seem to get decent reviews. Is the holster issue with the slide shape or were you referring to the BS Stainless Rail model. Also, I think Ruger is relatively new to the 1911 gig - how are they fairing to date?

They where making frames for some time for other company's from what I read . It's a 1911 its not reinventing the wheel .

Some sigs, not all use a different profile on the slide more square if in remembering right....

Yeah and the trigger guard is slightly different IIRC. Ruger has still been reliable for maybe 99% of the owners. Do a quick search and read the posts. Ruger and Remington make an outstanding 1911 for the money. Springfield also, but good luck with that. I can't wait to buy my first 1911 but other guns take priority.

That (untouchable for MA) Springfield TRP is a ****ing Picasso. I'd be curious to hear from Ruger 1911 owners about the lack of checkering on the grip - is that
really meaningful?

I love my SR1911, and have no issues that is does not have the front strap/back strap checkering. I actually prefer it without the checkering.

I don't like 1911's with a bunch of extra shit added all over it. People think they have to ugly up a 1911 with swiss army knives and forks. Give me a break.

My SR1911 has been ABSOLUTELY PERFECT through all the rounds I have shot it. No issues at all.

See my avatar? I AM RUGER, and I love it just the way it is. [laugh]

The attraction of the Ruger, for sure, is the simplicity of the design - really beautiful.

Love my Ruger as well even though I over paid for it! That looks like it would be a nice addition to my collection.....if only I could find those darn federal 100 packs of .45 more often!!

Yes it is. It is the best 1911 under $1,000 out there right now. Maybe even better than some 1911's that are slightly over $1,000.

I definitely want the Commander as well at some point, so I can have matching beauties in my safe. It's a great 1911, and if you ever have the chance to get one, do it. You won't regret it.

Ruger made an excellent, 100% USA made gun.

I really like the look with the shorter upper. Yes, the lack of checkering on the front of the grip can make it a bit slick when it's really hot out. I've also pondered having the gun cerakoted a darker color.

I got to shoot Loki's sr1911 last Sunday and he got to shoot my r1.
Difference I noticed the sr1911 is heavier then the r1. Other then that its more of a different style . Both ran like champs in the cold.

I've had my SR1911 for about a year and its been great! I've put about 1500 rounds through it. Great gun, for a great price!

1911 Magazines .... are they all interchangeable among different 1911 guns? Or are some manufacturers mags proprietary?

I believe FS said on their website they are selling them

Yes, Four Seasons is selling them right now.

I had checked the Ruger website yesterday (and again this morning) and they said not MA approved, but yes I see Four Seasons has them listed, but for $30 more than I paid for my SR1911 and without the extra cc charge. Got to be patient I guess?

For the most part, yes for the major/reputable manufacturers. But I have found a few followers which do not work well in some of my guns. Check before spending a lot of money.

My Sig Target 1911 is a beast... shoots great. Came with adj sights, but it did have a bunch of FTF's (Failure to feeds) during break in, but performs great now (have about 200 rds thru it).

My buddy's SR1911 shoots great too and his front sight hasn't fallen off yet too which is a plus [wink] ... though his grips keep loosening up (he needs to grab some blue loctite). i don't think i have ever seen his gun fail though (FTE's, FTF's) since he has bought it... pretty reliable for the price.
