Ruger SR1911

Is this your first 1911? - hoping you have some experience with others so when you write us up a review you have a comparison for it.
I have heard good things about them.

FS according to their email I got today though, "may have a couple more left" after they fulfill their waiting list. My guess is they are probably sold out again. If you want one, they are open till 12 tomorrow I believe. They are VERY popular.

Didn't even ask about price matching. Price was $700, minus 2% for cash/debit card.

Supposedly I was on their wait list, but I didn't get a call. When I saw Carl's email I called and they put my name on one for a one-day hold. About 90 minutes later I was putting my LTC down on the glass. :-)

Grabbed a new tactical cleaning kit, a Blackhawk Serpa holster and a box of 250 American Eagle 230g JHP ammo. All in all I dropped about $925... with a big smile even... and was on my way home in about 45 minutes.

I did manage to contact Mark at Holliston Firearms on my way there about another matter and he said he sells them for $650... he was also happy to hear that Carl got some yesterday, since that may mean he'll be getting some in his shipment early next week. You might try him... my buddy has bought a couple of guns from him and speaks very highly of him.

Sorry to say, Dirtypacman, that this is my first 1911. Primary point of comparison will be the GI 1911 with which my grandfather taught me how to shoot about 30 years ago, and I haven't handled that one for maybe 15 years...

My other regular shooter is a Mauser C96, so not much to compare. Compared with the other sub-$1000 1911s I handled while shopping for this, nothing comes close to the fit/finish, crisp mechanicals (slide release, magazine insertion and release, safety on/off, trigger, etc) of the SR.

BTW, nobody can tell me what became of my grandfather's 1911, but i have the original holster and a mag wih 6 rounds in it... the old Colt mag clicks right into the SR and holds the slide back properly when empty. :-)

My wife wants us to hit the range with it in the morning, so we'll let you know how it goes!

That is 1 fine looking gun. Now that you got yours and there are FINALLY some stores getting these things, I can't wait for First Defense to call me about mine! [smile] Have fun shooting her today. [thumbsup]

Had a little fun at the indoor range today. Unfortunately were a little rushed for time and bumped up against a range qualification test going on... and then my wife got a little spooked by the big gun and decided she wanted her first pistol experience to be with a .22 instead.

All that said, the SR1911 performed flawlessly with all 3 mags (including the WW2 one) through 22 rounds. Trigger pull was smooth and consistent, break was clean, and grouping exceeded my skills.

Here's my target. First 8 rounds (circled) were offhand at 7 yards, with the remaining 14 fired offhand at 50 feet. No, I'm not currently a great shot, but that's largely lack of practice. Note, however, that 6 of the 8 at 7 yards were within an inch, and I was being rushed a bit at 50 feet. Yeah, I know... excuses excuses...

BTW, the guy who was qual'ing had a stainless Kimber that looked almost identical to my SR!

I had a chance to look at 30Mauser's SR1911 the other day. It looked really nice to me. The barrel lockup was tight -- there was no movement at all when I pressed down on the barrel hood. The fit of the frame to the slide at the back of the gun looked very, very nice. The trigger was a bit heavy to my taste, I'd guess 5 1/2 lbs, but no creep. I don't care for the Novak sights, but those are easily changed.

I didn't get a chance to shoot it, but it looked great. And even at $700 I think it is a good value.

Appreciated the opportunity to have someone who knows 1911s take a look at it. Let me know if you'd ever like to put a few rounds downrange!

Sounds like a plan. Next weekend is busy for me, but maybe sometime after that. I'll bring a few other 1911s for comparison.

Anyone get one from First Defense this week? I checked in on Tuesday and was number six, hopefully some came in.

I have called there periodically to see if any came in, but the 2 or 3 times I have called over the last 5-6 weeks, they said not a 1 has come through their doors. I know Four Seasons got a bunch last week, to fill back orders pretty much like everyone else. Other than that, I think all the gun shops throughout the state and beyond are having the same problems getting these things in stock.

That being said, I know they are still taking orders for their price of $599 until further notice.
