Ruger SR1911

I'd still buy a SR1911, over any other 1911 in that price range. Period.

I have 2, and maybe I'll buy 2 more.

I wish I was that enthusiastic about them but meh, they really let me down here. If it's just my own consumer gripe, I'll live with it. But shit, make a firearm that'll withstand 100rds without your front sight being blown to Vermont, FFS

I am sure somewhere along the line, hundreds of front sights didn't go through QC properly. I have had zero problems with my front sights.

The way all of these gun manufacturers have been pumping out stuff for the last 8 months, I won't hold it against them.

The 1 issue I had with rust on my Commander, and they sent me a brand new gun in 7 days. I am not going to bust their balls over that.

Take this time, and get better sights on the gun. To me, it's an inconvenience sure, but not the end of the world. I mean come on.

So far no rust on my Commander model, which was made about a week apart from Not Tom's. And my front sight is still attached after a couple hundred rounds or so.

Good point , and I get that you're not trying to undermine my opinion on Ruger for firearms but seriously it's bullshit. Don't get me wrong I still would berry a 5" but at the end of the day, broken sights is at the back of my mind. I wish it wasn't but that's the way it is. I suppose if I bought a Ruger 1911 that I'd replace the sights which I obviously would. But damn Ruger, get it together. ****

Yes, it is definitely frustrating. No one on this forum probably loves Ruger more then I do. So it definitely seems that they have a sight problem on these guns for sure. Hopefully they can get it figured out.

Mine have not broken yet. If they do, I am just going to put new sights on it. I won't send it in.

I gave up on finding a Ruger after Bud's finally showed them in stock....at MSRP!

So, I bought a Citadel today from a LGS, $591 OTD with fifty rounds of Blazer brass FMJ.

I think on any "entry level" 1911 I'd end up replacing the sights right out of the box anyways. Hey, now I'm leaning towards a Ruger because the original sights remove themselves! [rofl]

That's a good one! ....I have one on layaway I pick up next week, but I'm curious as to anyone having good follow up as to the reason for the sight problem? Set screw not torqued, weak screw, poor sight block material, etc....

The blade snaps off the base, it is a cast part so I guess the best description would be poor sight material/ bad cast. Also, not sure if its a bad lot problem as this has been happening for over a year...

I really like Ruger... But I am so happy that I bought the Remington R1 Enhanced! I was after a Ruger, just couldn't find one and said F*** it!

The Rem has been flawless for almost a year and over 1k rounds.

Should I try to speak with a supervisor and hold out for the fiber optic front sight? Anyone have any experience with this?

I was not able to get there, all they would do is transfer me to the ruger store, I tried to get a credit toward the upgraded sight without luck. Good Luck...

BTW, my replacement sight showed up yesterday... I would take it to have it replaced but the last smith I had put new sights on my shield bent the base of the front sight so I a reluctant. I think I will do it myself, I just have to figure out how to align it.

Problem is in that price class those kinds of problems are pretty typical on varying manufacturer's guns. Shit happens.

This wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me because I would just use it as an opportunity to get better sights installed.

I purchased mine at FS in February. Not a problem. Zero. The only major issue is the shooter (me). Like has been said, for the price point, you take the "good with the bad", but, on balance, it's an awesome firearm, imo.

Same here. I can get more with the SR1911 than the R1 Enhanced (and a few hundred cheaper). I hate Remington as a company so I've avoided them. Sure I'll shoot someone's R1 and it's a great 1911 but I can't willingly support them. Ruger had their FUDD shit in their past but meh, oh well.

I've loved the SR1911 since it was unveiled and I really want the 5" model. I may just buy one and replace the front sight right away so I don't need to deal with any of this bull.

I got mine in march at FS, how many rounds have you shot? I was around 700 when mine broke. I still love the gun, and as has been pointed out the price is right. I would buy another one but I wish Ruger had handled it a little better...

1000+ rounds

To date, I have not. That privilege is reserved for the 229.

I had not until the weekend before it broke, I had used it at the John Kelly Memorial. I keep wondering if that had anything to do with it breaking...

I am still surprised Ruger didn't take it back. I have never heard of a story like that from them before.

I am always the first LOL

Carry mine IWB in a Minotaur all the time. Also have carried it in a Serpa (yeah, I know I know) OWB holster for events from time to time. 1000s of rounds downrange, no problems with the front sight blade and it has never failed to go "bang" for me when I pull the trigger.
