S&W 1911 "Enhanced" at Shot Show

Not all the Walthers are crap, just the PPKs.

Smith also makes the Model 41 there now, as well as handcuffs and knives. Supposedly they also moved some of their other DA pistol production up there. Springfield is basically a revolver and M&P plant now.

Unnecessary. Possibly cheaper. A properly tuned internal extractor works well.

I actually think they're an improvement, as they more-or-less eliminate improperly tuned extractors in production. I think they're harder to replace and get parts if broken, however.

Maybe a plus on the production side, and neutral on the user's side. Possibly cheaper is a good answer.

Kimber had issues with theirs. It is my understanding that they went through at least three redesigns of the external extractor. I believe they may have even abandoned it to go back to an internal extractor, but I'm not sure about that.

I believe you are correct. S&W seems to have designed it right the first time, except, perhaps, for ease of replacement.

Yea, I haven't heard any complaints about S&W's extractor. I think it looks ugly, but I guess I'm just nostalgic...

Are these close enough to existing models not to have to be tested and approved though?

Its a different model number so it will be required to submit for testing. I believe even if they only have varying colors and same model, test firearms of each color need to be supplied.

According to Guns & Ammo, the new E-Series, E for evolution, had design changes. A new trigger - the Joubert trigger system, a titanium firing pin, and as mentioned an extra heavy duty extractor. Made up in Houlton, ME.

When does the next approved list come out? July?

Wouldn't it be nice for the 100th anniversary of the 1911 to have a exemption so a 2011 Wilson, Brown, Bauer, Kimber, Remington, ... could be purchased in Mass? Yeah I'm dreaming of those thrilling days of yesteryear...

And they got rid of the Swartz-style firing pin safety.

Every single gun has to be tested and approved here in the PROM.

The SC model in blue has been sent in and the beauty in this thread I would guess. My understanding from my dealer is he's ordered but he didn't get a delivery date. Some guess is we might not see them till June or July. The "freeworld" will see them next month. Give Coupe DeVal a call and tell him to hurry up!

Tested OR certified as "designed and manufactured exclusively for formal target shooting competition". There are only three guns (Two SVI, one S&W) that meet the "target criteria" and are on the "target roster".

The round butt on a 5 incher is now the front runner for my growing .45 fund, but when will I be able to get one??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll settle for the blue or SS flat MSH so all I have to wait for is the compliance testing issue and not further configuration offerings from the factory on top.
