I don't usually freak out for handguns but this one does it for me ever since I saw Gary Oldman carry one in The Professional.

Minus the custom work, anyone know what the average price for one is?

Its tough to tell by the picture, but when I was all googly over performance center guns I think thats the only way to get the 3" barrel and non fluted cyl ??
I think there was a backpack model in 3" but I by blurry recall think those where fluted cyl and possible fluted barrel. I paid 500.00 for a 629 clasic 6 1/2" barrel.
I sold some years ago for the same.
When I was looking the performance Center models....and there where a few ran about 1200 and up. I think the 629 comp II I was looking at was about 1350.00 new.

If the gun pictured(if you could tell) has the tear drop hammer its PC gun......then again its tough to tell with movie guns.

629

Sort of looks like the S&W 629 Trail Boss that I have, minus the Rosewood grips.

this young man reminds me of myself.....I had no use for the PC guns I purchased and thank god I never lost a cent in resale....phew.....Only gun I repurchased was a S&W 1911 PC model. Cause it was just nice and I shoot well with it.

Garys gun is a custom gun for sure, I dont know the time line for the movie or the time period they where produceing the PC models....

funny he sent out a PC gun for upgrades..............it never ends. Thank god I did not catch that bug......yet

I have been wanting one like that for a while now and it's what I've been on the hunt for. That is, until last week. I found her. She is now on her way to me and should arrive next week.

Say hello to my new 629-6 Backpacker

The 3" model with the unfluted bbl is fairly rare, so they demand a little bit of a premium. Guy was selling for $820. Got it for $750 shipped to First Defense.

Did I mention that I CANNOT wait until she shows up. I'll bring her along to the Mansfield shoot so you can give her a try if you'd like.

I'd definitely like to try that. At least now I know what to expect for a price, and for a search.

I've got the same critter, but it's a 629-4 pre-lock in 2.5" with full underlug. It's a hoot with 44 SPL loads. I haven't tried it with 180gr 44 mag yet.

I know that my Trail Boss with full magnum loads is a mule, but I have the ported 3" barrel, so the kick is somewhat muted. I can only imagine how your 2.5" un-ported magnum will feel like with a full power magnum load. Probably like my S&W 340pd with a full .357 magnum load.....it hurts after a few shots, but sounds awesome!

I have a 629 Mountain Gun that I bring elk hunting. For out west I have 300gr Cor Bons doing about 1200fps and it is WAAY more tame than my 340PD with .357's in it.

I think both of you guys may be on to something. I find the .44SPL's very similar in recoil to .45acp from my 5" steel 1911. I'm working my way up to try the mags.
Back to the OP's question - I'd say the 750-800 buck ballpark is about right for one of these. I haven't seen an unfluted short barrel go for less especially if it's a -1 through -4 pin on hammer prelock.
