I put the Apex Duty Kit in my S&W 642 Airweight. All I can Say is WOW! The Utube videos are excellent and it went smoothly. I have since done 4 more for friends. I highly recommend polishing the trigger return bar as Apex recommends. Mine came out to a touch under 9lbs from over 16. Very comfortable and not bad for $24.95 plus shipping.

+1

I did this too for my Airweight. It made a big difference and was really easy to put in. I think the Youtube videos actually make the operation out to be a bigger deal than it really is to be honest (which is a good thing).

I put one in my 442. Much nicer trigger pull, but not so light that I don't feel comfortable with it in my pants pocket. I do have to say that I couldn't imagine doing it without the "pickle fork" tool. Even with it some swearing was involved with the reinstallation of the rebound slide/spring. Now I wanna take it back apart and do some polishing though, damnit.

The polishing and greasing Apex recommends makes a huge difference. I've done three more for friends and my home made pickle fork makes all the difference.

I measured the OD of the spring with a caliper, then went through my old screw drivers until I found one with an OD slightly smaller than the spring OD. Used the Dremel and cut off the end (phillips tip). Then used the same Dremel and slotted the end until it fit the return mechanism pin. After that used a butane torch to heat the shaft and put a 45 degree bend in it about 1/2" from the end. No camera but here is the one at Brownells. I only put one bend in it, still works.

Nice, I have been polishing up my new (to me) J Frame and I wanted to disassemble it to get any metal polish out before I use/carry it again. Maybe I'll get this and install it at the same time. Little nervous taking the thing all the way apart but...Ill figure it out!

Thanks for sharing, I need to get one. +1

Funny that people will spend $25 for a $9 spring kit and a firing pin you don't need. [thinking]

Gary, what weight hammer and rebound springs do you recommend for a J-frame carry trigger?

They do charge $15 for the firing pin along so they are "only" charging you $10 for a $9 spring kit (granted you usually get 3 rebound springs in the spring kit rather than the 1 in the APEX kit).

Mike,

All I use is a 14# rebound on all carry revolvers balanced with a reliable main spring. The Wolff reduced power kit, allows you to try what you need.

I used Randy's firing pin when he first introduced them and they are just not necessary. S&W improved their pins four years ago and the stock pin is all you need. If you find it is sticky, chuck it into a dremmel and polish with jewelers rouge on a leather strop but even that is rarely necessary.
