Savage 10FP vs Remington 700P vs CZ 527

I was leaning towards the 700 for some time. Then I began to really examine my reasons. After really looking at these two rifles (don't know much about that particular CZ so I'll refrain from talking sh@@.) I came away seeing Savage as the clear value choice. I mean the Rem is a fine rifle, but the Savage is it's equal (my opinion) and costs comparatively less.

I'm picking up a CZ527 Varmint Kevlar in .223 on Thursday. I love the CZ452 and expect really good things from the new one. It has gotten some great reviews. I've not shot with a set trigger before, and that will be a new experience.

One of the guys at our range has been state champ in service rifle a number of times. He is a buddy of Derek, actually. He recently bought a Remington 700 and last I saw was shooting some nice groups. It took him a while to figure out a good load, but once he found the magic combination it was amazing. I could only dream of shooting anything like this guy.

I'll let y'all know how the CZ527 goes.

The money you'll save by buying the Savage will allow you to spend extra cash on some quality optics and accessories like a mount, rings, and a bipod.

I'd say with the price differences between both rifles, you could get a Savage and a Super Sniper scope for the price of a 700.

A quality mount and set of rings will only run about $150 more, and if you want a nice stock you're looking at around $200.

It really depends on how much you want to spend.

Any suggestions for a good set of scope rings for any of these rifles? Which give you the best bang for your buck?

Thanks,

Rich

I don't know if they are the best bang-for-the-buck option, but I like Badger Ordnance rings and bases.

Edit to add: I have a Leupold 8.5-25x50 on an Remington 700p .308 using the Badger 20moa base and the regular (0.885) rings. Clearance with covers on the scope is perfect -- about as low as you can go:

i heavily researched both of these rifles the 10fp vs. 700pss. i finally came up with the notion that they both are great firearms. and basicly can get the same results out of both. its all a matter of which one you can find a better deal on when searching.

i was very close to buying a rem 700 40x ($1400 for rifle only) , but then i ended up with the NIB 26" savage 10fp-hs detactable mag w/ an aluminum bedded h-s precision stock ,which i found for $750 on gunbroker. you dont see the 26" models anymore & the stock alone is $400 if bought seperately..so i nabbed it up.

i topped it with a farrel 20 moa steel rail w/ built in recoil lug screw...with leupold QD rings holding on a leupold mark 4 6.5-20x50 scope...it shoots .5 moa no sweat

dont skimp out on the mounts, rings & scope. stay away from aluminum mounts/rings. steel is what you want for ulimate rigidness & thermal stablity.

I was looking for a heavy barreled LH Bolt action in .308. A Remington 700 VSF at a great price came along first otherwise I would have gone with a Savage.

I just mounted a scope to it with Talley lightweight mounts.
