need some opinions on a tactical semi auto shotgun

at the last gun show i almost bought a beretta 1201fp because ive heard great things about them as defensive weapons but beretta discontinued them...and if i have a problem down the road and need a part chances are i wouldnt be able to find it so i shyed away from buying it

i have a saiga 12 and 20 gauge but unfortunately cannot modify them how i'd like to...or get 8 round mags for them or else i would just trick 1 of them out

i know FN makes the SLP which i belive is almost a copy of the beretta 1201

i REALLY like the benelli m4...but why does it cost almost as much as the super 90?

i know about the remington 1100's but i would prefer something with a pistol grip

any input/opinions??? are there any other players in the game?

Given that that 1201 uses the same inertia system as the other Berettas AND the Benellis, I am not sure what repair/replace problems you think you'd have.

My 1201 has the sideshell carrier and the xenon fore-end, so accessories can't be all that big a crisis.

Scriv...didnt know that

what i read about the 1201 was that it was one of the fastest semi autos so i didnt know if 1) springs and such needed to be replaced more often 2)if parts were interchangeable with other guns

how do you like yours scriv?

i guess i should have added that i want something with sights on it too...not just a bead...preferably ghost ring sights

I just bought a Remington 1100 Tactical from RoundGunShooter and it is a helluva gun. It has a pistol grip and everything!

ok...heres what ive come up with so far

FN SLP
~$650-700
ghost ring sights/integral rail[smile]
6+1, 3" chamber, 18" barrel
no pistol grip[sad]

Remington 1100
~$700
bead sight/drilled and tapped[sad]
6+1, 3" chamber, 18"barrel
pistol grip[smile]

Benelli M3
~$1200-1400
ghost ring sights/no rail[thinking]
5+1, 3" chamber, 19 3/4" barrel,
pistol grip...semi/pump[smile] [smile]

Benelli M4
~$1300-2000
ghost ring sights/integral rail[smile]
4+1, 2 shot extension tube, 3" chamber, 18.5" barrel
pistol grip/collapsible stock[smile] [smile]

and i cant find anymore beretta 1201s[crying]

so does anyone have any advice???

If it doesn't have AT LEAST a 6-shell magazine, it's not "large capacity." That makes the question, "Why bother?"

I bought the 1201 to complete the triumvirate of Evil Assault Weapons. The fact that you can't get one now makes it the next best thing this side of a SPAS 12, and it's MUCH lighter!

Scriv...since you and crossx have both responded here are both legal eagles...explain to me what i can and cant have

both the benellis i mentioned can have a +2 tube added to them...is it legal to have 6+1 and a pistol grip? what about a folding/collapsible stock?

im pretty sure...not 100% that all those things combined are legal on a pump gun...but not for a semi auto...please clarify

also...people are saying the benellis are going to start being banned..???

I have owned or shot a couple of these, so here is my take:

Rem 1100. : needs some tuning to be fully effective (sights, springs ...)
Scattergun Technologies or some other builder can make it nice. Shoots
really easily and soaks up some recoil.

Benelli M3; I had an M1 and shot an M3. The pump feature on an M3 is
an expensive, fragile waste, IMHO. It was designed to allow breaching
and gas rounds to cycle the action. Any defense load will be fine and you
will likely leave it in auto mode all the time anyhow.

Benelli M4: Looks nice, but I prefer the inertia-driven system of the rest
of the Benelli line. Your call...

Beretta 1201FP: I owned one of these and traded it towards a Benelli.
It had the same inertial mech. as the M1 Super90 and was actually
more comfortable to shoot (stock fit me better). They occasionally show up
used at around $500.

Honestly, I hate shooting shotguns with a pistol grip. It looks all evil-like
but I find it less "smooth". If you have not shot one with a PG on it yet, I
would advise trying one out before you buy. You might not like it.

For the money, I would shop for a used 1201FP or M1 Super90, followed by a
tuned 1100/1187. I sold an M1 Super90 for a very (ouch!) low price last year
and I see them often at ~$800 in very good shape.

Good luck.

i have a pistol gripped pump gun...i prefer it over my standard stocked benelli pump

in my case i feel the PG aids in accuracy, stability, and impact of the gun on my shoulder
