John, sorry to say that FedEx and UPS has us over a barrel due to employee theft they make us pay thru the nose to ship handguns.

John,

Wait a minute . . .

If you just want them to do the slide. Ship ONLY the slide back to Glock . . . that's NOT A GUN and therefore goes for ground rates (probably $6-9 depending on which company).

NO need to ship the frame in that case and save yourself almost $50. There are local Glock gunsmiths that can fix you up if you need anything replaced on the frame.

Another alternative is give Zero Hour Arms a call. I think they have someone they use for re-finishing and it might be cheaper than the ~$100 shipping/Glock charge.

If you have to ship frame and all, go to your friendly neighborhood FFL and have him ship it via the USPS. Much cheaper. If you're on good terms with him (good customer) he should be able to handle it.

I don't have to ship the frame. I know FS gets $75 to do a spring tune up. I figured if it Sent the frame too it would be easer for them to go thought it. For $100 it will be good for another 10 yrs. It a 3rd gen made on 7/98. I am so confused [thinking]

+ a billion, Jon. I'd rather have the FFL keep the profit, also makes it way easier to deal with picking the gun up when it comes back the other
way. (instead of playing yellow/white tag funhouse with fedex or UPS, or worse yet, having them leave a handgun in a box tied to your door handle!)

i'd personally save the headache and have my neighborhood FFL ship it. butter them up, buy some ammo while your there [wink]

as for cost, not sure... some places charge as little as $25 bucks if you purchased the firearm from them and provide your own packing materials i.e. Four Seasons, under "services we offer"

i'd send the frame along with to knock it all out at once. although, those pins and springs are easy to change on a Glock. you could probably tune it yourself if you buy all the parts.... probably cost more though.

I actually think that the parts in the lower frame would probably cost less (mail-order) than the difference in shipping cost between sending a "gun" and a slide. Dropping them in is quite trivial, probably take 10-15 minutes for the inexperienced person . . . or make friends with a local Glock armorer . . . that's what I did [smile] .

You might ask a freindly FFL dealer to ship it for you since they can use USPS Priority Mail.

Len is right. Get a replacement spring kit and go to town. Glock frames are pretty empty as far as parts go.

Glock is very fussy about not supporting any work or detail strip by someone not factory certified, so they will often say they want the entire gun to look over even if you only need a small part. The easiest approach is to go to Four Seasons or another shop with an on-site Glock certified armorer, or ask around to find out if someone at your club is one.

The Armorer's class (www.glockraining.com) is $150 and is open to members of GSSF (Glock Sport Shooting Foundation) so you can learn to do your own tuneups.

Why bother? Glocks run extremely well without slide refinishing. It gives them character. Get a new recoil spring, new mag springs and you should be good to go.
