New to 1911's and thinking of getting the SIG 1911 Scorpion full size as my first 1911.
Just wondering on everyone's opinion on it.
Experience with it.
And good for a beginner of 1911's.
Thanks

I have one, and like it. That being said, it has a couple of drawbacks. Sig profile 1911 style guns are sometimes tough to find holsters for. The grips are just do wright aggressive. Fine if you need to retain your grip while soaked in blood or alien guts, not fine if you want to put 500 rounds through it in an afternoon, it beats my hands up. The gun is plenty accurate, has eaten nearly everything I've put through it, and runs like a top.

Don't plan to carry it. Range mainly.
The grips do look "intense".
Would you choose the Nightmare over the Scorpion?
Thanks.

Honestly, I'd suggest you do what I should have done: get a S&W enhanced or Ruger SR1911, or even a Rock Island...they're all a lot less money, have a traditional profile befitting the gospel of John Moses Browning, and are easily customizable. Give. The choice between the Scorpion and the Nightmare though, I'd probably keep my scorpion and do what I've been saying I was gonna; change the grips and mainspring housing to something more "hand-friendly"

Have you gotten a chance to hold each one at a shop? I dont really like asking for a gun opinion on a forum. It usually turns into a 100 post 50/50 love it hate it thread. You get some general ideas but..... Sig makes a nice 1911. I was going to buy a TT a few years ago until I saw and held a Smith e series 1911. No reason why, they should have both performed the same, just when I held them side by side, I liked the e series better. Personal choice I'm saying is all.[grin]

Get the Ruger SR1911 for $630 at F.S. and then have a gunsmith tweak the gun to the way you want it...

You will have saved a bunch of $$$ and got a decent pistol.

Two very good gunsmiths, I know have stated the Ruger is the best 1911 for under $1000

No, but definitely doing that.

I have many 1911 handguns in several sizes and calibers. I have the Scorpion Carry (full size, shorter barrel) and love it. I happen to like the grips but I am a tin knocker with pretty beat up hands so the grips are a pleasure to shoot with. I also have had the S&W and I think they are garbage. If you can get one ;) , the Desert Eagle .45 is a lot more gun than any of them for the money if you compare features out of the box. I do have the Nightmare and there is no comparison between that and the Scorpion. Also, I think the Scorpion is a pretty close match with the style of the new Colt Marine .45. Bottom line, if you do not have office worker hands , the Scorpion is a great gun!

I love my scorpion. It shoots anything I run through it. It currently has a 2 3/4 lb trigger (trigger job done). The grips feel nice and also act as a mag well. It is a very tight gun and I think it looks better than the new colt marine 1911.

In my personal opinion, this gun shoots as good as my friends brand new dan wesson which has some vz grips that will chop your hand up!

If you want a 1911, skip SIG. The Remington R1 is a decent low-priced 1911, as is the Ruger SR1911.

Thanks for everyone's input. Appreciate it.
I have been reading the Sig mags that come with the Scorpion are crap.
It causes slide failure and failure to load.
And most people get McCormicks or Wilson Combat mags(pricey).
To you Scorpion owners, any truth to the Sig mags causing issues?

I have had several 1911's. My newest and favorite is a Sig 1911 Tacop's carry. I have had it for 3 months and carry it on duty and off. 4,000 rds through it without a hiccup. Extremely accurate. Very happy with it so far. The magazines that come with them now are better.

Thanks. I'll look into the Tac Ops.
Good to hear about the improved mags.

I've owned 2 ruger sr1911's and a sig ttt. Both rugers felt subpar (loose fitting parts, crappy finish) compared to the sig. I would definitely skip the ruger, my friend has the remington enhanced and is also much nicer than the ruger.

Just purchased a sig 1911 tacops shoots like a sig smooth and accurate eats it all. Didn't think I'd love anything like my p220!

For $779 NEW, I couldn't pass on the SIG 1911 Scorpion FS for my first 1911(real 1911 or not).

That was a very good deal, good thing the postman came before we closed today lol.
