I searched but didn't find an answer to this question. My father-inlaw just gave me a bag of 9mm ammo he'd had for a while. It's factory handloaded (?) and he thought it was +p pressure ammo but he doesn't remember exactly since he bought it a few years ago. It's spotless, bright and shiny cases and what look like maybe 124 gr. hollowpoints. There are 2 batches, one with what look like maybe hydrashock bullets and the other batch just standard looking hollowpoints.

Getting to the point, if these are +P ammo are they ok to shoot in my 1983 vintage P225?

If it's really factory ammo, +P, +P+, is all fine. It's a Sig, it won't care. The worst you can do to the gun is it will wear the recoil spring out faster, and you probably don't have enough ammo to even do that.

You'll have no problem shooting +P through the P6.

You may have trouble feeding the HPs, though. Seems that some like them and some don't - if yours doesn't like them, you can solve this by carrying Pow'rBall or doing a little polish work on the feed ramp. There's also a replacement barrel available that is modernized and eats hollowpoints happily.

Thanks for the quick replies. I haven't counted but there's probably about 100 total rounds. I've looked around a little at barrels, the only place I found was a place called EFK Firedragon? Are there other sources for barrels?

actually some sig P-225/P-6 have had problems with hotter plus P and especially +P+. The slide velocity can be faster then the magazine spring can keep up with. The P-225 was desiged to work with standard 115 grain ammo the same as the P-7.

After I posted this I found a few other sources that claimed the 9mm euro ammo is loaded to higher standard pressures than US ammo, anybody confirm or deny this?

Well, answered my own question. I have 2 different bullet types and 2 mags, one brand new from Sig and the other the original issue. The hydrashock's shot great out of both mags, no problems at all. The other unknow hollowpoints (bigger mouth than the hydras) didn't like the oem mag and would hang up every few shots. The slide would almost go all the way into lockup, but every couple shots it wouldn't lock and I'd have to use the heel of my hand to push it forward the last little bit into lock. The new mag didn't have this problem, so I'm going to get a new spring for the original mag. Other than that it fed the hollowpoints just fine, and they fired closer to point of aim than the standard 115 FMJ's (those shot about an inch high, the hollowpoints shot exactly to my point of aim).
