What can you tell me about it? I was looking at a BG380 but a acquaintance of mine said he would be willing to make me a great offer on his P238, and from what I have seen the used guns sell for its almost so good I'd be dumb not to grab it up.

My understanding is that the gun has barely been shot, but any known areas with this model I should be aware of? I saw something about a recall for the safety or something, can anyone elaborate on that?

I looked at both, but decided to get the BG380. I was looking for a pocket pistol and preferred the BG380s double action and long trigger pull to the P238s single action.

I figured a lot can go on in a pocket, between putting your hands in it, accidentally putting another item like keys into the same pocket as the gun and just general movement. I wasn't comfortable with the P238 locked and cocked with a single safety riding in my pocket. I could carry with the hammer down, and one in the chamber, but I found that I couldn't reach the hammer with my strong hand, so it would take an extra movement and both hands to make the gun ready to fire. The same would be true for carrying without one in the chamber and racking the slide after drawing.

The BG380 is double action only and has a long trigger pull. I felt much more comfortable carrying it in my pocket with one in the chamber. I debated carrying it with or without the safety on, but its easy enough to hit when drawing so I've been using it. Be aware that in addition to a long trigger pull, the trigger reset is very long too. I thought this may be an issue, before shooting it but it hasn't been so far.

I never shot the P238, but I found the BG380, while tiny, is comfortable to shoot and seems fairly accurate at short range.

Be aware, my entire opinion here is based on carrying the gun in a pocket. If I was going to be using a belt holster I might have made a different decision.

I owned a 238 for a short time it is a great gun. It shoots like a dream and is very accurate. I have shot a BG before and hated the trigger compared to the 238 which is why i chose not to buy one. I have also read about too many jam problems with the BG to carry one. I no longer own the 238 because I decided to carry a shield 9 instead of the small .380

I have a P238, great gun, easy to shoot, pretty light. I just got a Crossbreed for it.

Get it, you'll like it. Esp if you are a fan of the 1911.

I used to carry a BG380 then I had issues with the gun and lost faith in it. Bought a Sig P238 and couldn't be happier.

Love my 238. I carry with one in the chamber but uncocked. I heard too many bad things about the bg380 and it just didn't feel right in my hands.

I love 1911s so the controls on the 238 felt right. You won't regret it.

How do you uncock it? Certainly more hazardous than just carrying with the safety on... Cocked and locked is the only way.

Agreed. Check out the manual, it says that de-cocking the trigger is a no no as it overrides some of the safety features.

There really isn't a comparison between the two. The Sig is a better quality gun. For what they are there is no better ultra sub compact. I was talking to Carl at Four Seasons and he said he got 400 of the special editions in May with the hogue grips, night sights and 2nd mag and he only has about 10 left.

I bought one for my wife. She likes it, but I'm not a fan of the external safety or the small caliber. I was surprised how accurate it was for such a tiny gun. Fit and finish are excellent.

What kind of p238 they have many options...i have the "sport" which i love and i like it way better then my shield 9

Do you like 1911s or glocks?

I have had a P238 since they came out and also have a P938. I still carry the P238 pocket since the P938 does not fit in my pocket holster (need to buy a new one).

Love the gun.

You cant pay me to carry a DAO gun...

I have a rosewood. I got it because i wanted something to pocket carry while only wearing shorts. I find it to be accurate and I like the trigger. I've had a couple FTF's with target ammo, but it was while I was shooting with my non-dominant hand, so it was most likely my fault from limp wristing it. Even with the 7 round pinky mag, I don't use my pinky to grip it.

I know it's off topic but how does the mp9 shield compare to these two as far as size and concealability? Was thinking of getting into 9 but don't really want 380 as another caliber but I do like the size of BG/ 238

The shield is a small iwb gun. The two 380s are tiny pocket pistols.

What Squatch said...

Overall length:
P238 - 5.5"
Shield - 6.1"

Overall height:
P238 - 3.9"
Shield - 4.6"

I was interested in getting a Shield until I shot one last weekend. I am going to have to try one that has a trigger job. I thought the safety might have been on waiting for the trigger to finally break on the first round.

The best bet is the sig, if you end up not liking it which i dont rly think so but you can, always resell n have it gone in a day as to the bg where u will pron have a harder time...just my 2cents

.380s are less than chick calibers, they're for guys that can't handle a ****ing 9mm

[devil2]

Not being sarcastic either, the .380 will give you AIDs guys...

I'd buy and carry a P238 all day in my pocket. The only reason I'm not and am getting the P938 is because I don't need the headache of ANOTHER caliber to stock up, especially one that costs damn near the same as 45!

I'll be getting my P938 at the end of the year as I can get it for $400 new. Helping your friends with their job search does have its benefits [smile].
