Sig P238

Just an update on my p238, as far as function. I've run about 300 rounds thru it, mostly FMJ- Blazer Brass/Winchester White box, and some Hornady Critical Defense. No issues as per function. The Hornady printed most consistently. Picked up some Federal Hydo shok today, had my first FTF and a stove pipe. Felt rough when I chambered it, like the case mouth was dragging on the ramp. Pisser is, it seems to be the most accurate round for my pistol. Great grouping, but kinda expensive($1 a round) to keep running them thru to see if this is a one time glitch.

i've tried many different types of ammunition and the only kind i've had an issue with was magtech. it spit out little white things and the gun would get jammed after just a couple rounds. i've avoided magtech for my sig, and have had no problems since then.

It really depends on the model, I bought the blackwood maybe 18 months ago at First Defense in Uxbridge and paid $590. They are usually my best local option (price wise) for Sigs, along with Bob's in Webster. There's no shortage of stock on the P238, you should be able to find under $600. But then there's value of time and mileage...

I've owned the BG. What a terrible little turd!

I currently have the Sig 238 & 938. I have put about 600 rounds thru the 238 and have never had a failure. I mainly shoot reloads...It has performed flawlessly. I prefer the 938 just for the bigger round. It has also never failed me.

+1 on the BG. I know this has been beaten to death but it really is that terrible.

I bought it! It also has the night sights.

What about the p238 vs the new M&P BG (non laser). Has anyone tried the new BG out yet? Any improvements?

Price wise - $329 (M&P BG) vs $529 (p238m) @ four seasons right now, so a $200 difference.

I was thinking that the BG's DA longer trigger pull would be better/safer for a pocket gun compared to condition 1 for the p238.
I doubt I will be plinking much with either of these pistols given their size and cost/availability of .380.

But from everyone's post, it sounds like the p238 is the winner by far...

My P238 was $650. But my older BG380 was junk and I no longer trusted it to defend me or my families lives. Double the price is a small price to pay to know it will go bang when I need it. I don't think that just removing the laser and doing some minimal trigger work makes it any better.

Never had a single FTF with my 238. Easily a thousand rounds of all different ammo down the spout and not a hiccup. Incredibly soft shooter and a blast at the range. That being said, for summer carry, I just don't know about carrying C1 in my pocket even with a holster. Picked up a remora that may do the trick though. Something about the inherently loooong trigger on the BG that I like but it's not a great gun to shoot (have shot one at the range), and the much reported problems with them and seemingly endless supply for sale here and on other forums gives me pause.

I shot mine a few minutes ago. I could not believe how shootable it is. I put 170 rounds thru it with two stovepipes. 100 rounds of it was Tula steel so I had minimal expectations but was very surprised at how well it handled crap ammo. I was never able to shoot the bg380 this well. I am very glad I made the change.

I used to have a LCP. It was a great carrying gun, but not fun to shoot. To say the least.

Then I shot a 238. Wow. It shot great. It was actually fun to shoot. But I knew that I didn't want a SA gun for a defensive gun. (I'm also a lefty and the 238 doesn't have an ambi safety). But with all that said, it is a great gun.

I ended up getting a Kahr P380. It shoots just as nice as the sig, but is DAO, which works out better for me. I shoot both a Glock and a 1911 competitively. So I'm not confident that Ill instinctively sweep the safety on and OFF when I should.
