Sig P239M 9MM vs. S&W Shield 9MM

I'm with Smitty.

If you can't afford a Sig, and there's no shame in that, Smith makes a fine substitute. But there's NO comparison in quality.
Absolutely. SIG makes some of the world's finest production handguns available. I'd take quality and spend a little more. 357 SIG is the best semi handgun specific ammo for defensive carry, IMO. I carry a 9, but my next purchase will be a 229 in .357, without a doubt.

Everyone can afford a P239. They're the most frequently dumped P series pistol (because they're WAY too big for what they do) so there are plenty of them on the used market, frequently for under $500.

Note that this is not an indictment against the quality of the gun. I had a P239/9mm and I carried it frequently... it was extremely reliable, very accurate, and controllable with hogue wraparounds on it. The gun is high quality, it's just too damned big for what it was.. and eventually when someone knows better they'll sell it.

I love hogue wraparounds on my P220, but no way I'd put them on my 239. They would make it too large for what it is.

They don't, really. The P239 frame is wicked skinny without the factory grip panels on it, the finger grooves don't make the gun wider, really.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to drgrant again.

Been there, sold that, haven't missed it one bit.

Or, you could consider a Walther P99c AS if you can find one. Walther has a couple other very slim conceal carry type pistols as well but I am more a fan of the P99c - small, 10+1, very controllable recoil, 9mm and .40, night sights easily available and installed, good factory grip options, lots of holsters - no trigger job needed.

Just need to get used to the magazine release being on the trigger guard.

The P239 SIG should be around $650 at Four Seasons - if/when they have them.

I have a P239 and I do love it. Its a great accurate pistol and fun to shoot. But its weight and bulkyness make it not good to carry. I'm actually looking to sell mine or trade for a new Shield.....great gun not knocking the 239 just heavy for what it is....
