small pistols

The smallest 1911 style is the Colt .380 Govt Model (also variants like the Mustang etc.), in appearance anyway,(not to be confused with the pocket autos of 1903 and 1908) These look like minature 1911's sans grip safety, and are of locked breech design. Actually they are based on a Charles Petter design rather than J.M. Browning. They are nifty pistols and were produced from the early to middle 80's thru the late 90's. I have seen them at gun shows and in gun shops in varying degrees of condition. I had one but sold it, alas. [frown

I still have my Colt Government .380 purchased in 1990, shame on you for selling yours. Although I sold my NIB unfired Colt Detective Special in 1992, and to this day, I am still having nightmares about it[crying]

Got a Colt Government .380 recently myself. Smaller and slimmer than the Walther PPK or Sig 232, and .38 snubbie, but still has enough grip that it doesn't leave your pinky finger hanging. Handles like a dream, comes right back on target, and has a wonderful SA trigger. I don't know why they don't make them anymore. If you ever get the chance buy one!

It's replacing my S&W 442 .38Spl for summer carry. Although .380ACP is not quite as powerful as .38Spl I prefer 7+1 with easy reloads over 5 with PITA reloads anyday.
