I had some time today and decided to put some effort into the 629, I've always wanted a fancy look'en shoot'en iron!! Took me about three hours to do this. I was working slow so maybe two hours if you move fast?? I'm satisfied with the results. The photos don't do the finished product justice but you can get the idea.

I used my 8 inch 3/4hp bench buffer. Cheap one from Northern Tool. Starting with red rouge on a laminated sisal buff wheel then over to the other side of the machine to a spiral sewn soft buff wheel with white rouge compound. I double up my wheels to get a nice 1-1/2 wide wheel. I don't like the skinny wheels but sometimes they do come in handy to get into the tight spaces. The edges of the fatter wheels flare out after a few minutes use and you can use these edges to get into most spaces. I did use my Dremel tool only slightly. I hate to use the Dremel at all but the tight spaces give no choice. The small size of the Dremel buff wheels make them cut very fast. So great care must be used not to over cut the area you need it for. I do all the Dremel work before the final buff with the white rouge but after the initial buff with the red rouge. This way I can blend any areas that look a little different from the inconsistent tooling. Doing the Dremel work after the initial buff gives me something to match the Dremel work to but it never matches perfect so the final buff is where the magic happens. It does take a lot of patience but I think its worth it.[smile]

I do loves me a shiney pistol. Here's my 629 all polished up.

Where's the S+W logo on the right side? Does that model not have it or did you buff it off?

Next up on my list is some wood grips!! When they come I'll do a final buff job and take more photos!

No, the logo is there on the left side.
