I was cleaning my M&P's the other day and the one that has a trigger job I noticed something I don't think is right.
When the plunger on the slide is not pushed in, the firing pin sometimes slides past it and sticks out to where it would hit the primer on the round in the chamber.

I tested it by pushing the plunger in and pushing the firing pin forward it went forward and sprung back, I then let the plunger pop back up and pushed the firing pin again and it sometimes will more forward again without the plunger being pushed down.

This isn't safe correct? LOL What should I do?

The plunger on the slide- you mean the firing pin safety? How are you pushing the firing pin foreward? Is the back FP retaining cover on the slide? And does this happen with the slide on the gun while hand cycling the slide? You just may be doing something that the gun when fully assemble will not do. I have never heard or seen this issue in normal conditions.

You're gonna have to detail strip the upper. Take a look at the safety plunger - perhaps it has some rounded edges, for who knows what reason - thus its not stopping the firing pin in the 'safe' position and can be moved by moving the firing pin. Alternatively, take a look at the firing pin - again rounded edges that don't catch the plunger and move the plunger when the firing pin is moved forward.

How the hell do I do that? LOL

If you're not willing to figure it out, I'd take it to a gunsmith. I don't know of any existing guides.

when you push on the firing pin safety plunger does it have a spring to it? In the movie when you moved your firing pin forward it looks as though the plunger moved. I wonder if the spring was never put back in or the wrong one was put in. Or you can try to pull the firing pin backwards and see if the plunger pops up. it may be stuck

When I push on the firing pin safety plunger it does have a spring to it.
When I push the firing pin without pressing the safety plunger down the firing pin moves forward.

try pulling the firing pin back towards the rear of the slide (past the safety plunger) and let it come back to rest. Can you still push it forward?

This condition does not occur in my M&P. I would bring it back to the smith who did the trigger job. It does not sound safe and he should be responsible.

I stand behind all my work. I have never heard of this issue but am glad to look it over.

OK- In the trigger job process, nothing related to the FP safety is altered, other than polish. Let's have a look. Greg
