Anybody know of a gunsmith that specializes in these?
Mine was built in the 50's and it's time for a professional tuneup.

Smith & Wesson declined to work on it.

Your pistol left the factory in the mid 1950's. I spoke with our gunsmith and they will not work on anything this old. We just do not have these older parts if they are needed. I am very sorry.*

Thank You for choosing Smith & Wesson / Thompson Center products. Have a great day.

So did they change the new manufactured 41s so much that they cant use the same parts.
Doesn't a true gun Smith have the ability or connections to make parts?
I know price points can't get crazy high on one of made parts but a model 41 should not be to tough for the original manufacture?

Did you contact general customer service?

Try here qa@smith-wesson.com

Sad really they can't support the products.....or at least have a few recommendations

That's just stupid, the model, design and parts are all the same today as then. I'll help you out. I love the 41.

Glad you posted. Here's your guy. Op.

Good to know for future reference , although my 41 runs great right now.
Fresh mag springs from brownels fixed an occasional ftf

You would think they would be honored to have a classic back in house to be re tuned.

+1. The 41 is one of the finest American target pistols on the market. This pistol is an advertisement for S&W design and QC, and the company refuses to service it? Where do they think that 41 owners will get the parts and service they need? I find it absurd that a firearms manufacturer would refuse to support one of their finest products. I hope someone from S&W is listening.

Larry Carter (actually his 41 guy) at Larry's Guns. None better.

That was my very first thought. Nice little shop and very serious shooters. Helped me out on my Pardini a while back with mags and firing pins. If something ever went wrong with my 41 I'd be swinging thru Gray Maine on a northbound trip.

I love my S&Ws, but I seriously doubt they have the talent or skill remaining for anyone to effectively work on your Pistol anyways. Modern factory "gunsmiths" are parts assemblers and nothing more.

It may be that management made a blanket decision that they wouldn't work on anything older than XX years. They lost a lot of old parts in a fire some years ago, and it could be they don't want to waste time digging through bins for old parts. So they told our OP it was too old.
That said, Greg is right that the M41 hasn't changed in 50 years. I've fired more rounds through mine than anything else I own. It's from around 1980.

Need to thank Greg Derr. Greg got this 41 fixed and brought a 1911 back to life for me.
I got them to the range this week and both ran perfect.
A true gunsmith with knowledge and skills to repair and tune guns not just swap our parts.

What no sexy pics Greg[smile]
Mr. Derr has only done 2 projects for me. They where small and not required much but He did what several would not or could not do and He did it well and reasonable.
Love my 41'makes me feel like I can actually shoot!
