So What Happened to Trump's Plan To Do Away With Federal Taxes on Soc Sec?

So when people are saying SSI, do you really mean Supplement Security Income? That program is for people with certain medical conditions and that have less than I think 2K worth of assets. It's not regular social security benefits or social security disability. I would assume someone that qualifies for SSI would not be paying any taxes anyway.

SSI was tax exempt until (if I remember correctly) until the Clinton Administration. So, this would make it go back to the way it was. Oh, until LBJ and his "Great Society" SSI was in a separate account he was the one that folded it into the general fund.

Actually, I think it was Carter in 1978 that combined the welfare department into SS.

Both of you are wrong.

Social Security benefits became taxable in 1984 following the passage of the 1983 Social Security Amendments, which were signed into law by President Reagan in April 1983

Pretty sure it was Biden who wrote the bill to initially tax social security and then introduced every bill to increase the amount taxable
Regan taxed 50 percent of social security the ill passed in 1983. But....you keep going on blaming the dems for all the shit 😂

I believe MA just crossed 2 Billion Dollars in Taxpayer Money that was given away to illegals.

What is free shit, what is an entitlement, who's entitled, who isn't, who "earned" it, who didn't.

MA is just getting warmed up, get the hell out while you can. Florida was spending $8 billion a year (more than $5k/capita) on illegals 2 years ago, probably closer to $10 billion a year now, I can only imagine what other southern states are spending on them. Trump will never be able to deport enough to make a difference money-wise.

The only taxes Floridians pay is real estate taxes and sales taxes, which for similar value properties cost about the same as MA. There is no income tax....

Many of the real estate taxes are paid for by people that don't actually live in the state.....as they are snowbirds. 1/3 of the properties in my development are vacant for 7-8 months of the year. There are a metric shit ton of developments that are similar......So I think its a tradeoff as these snowbirds and vacationers arent using the resources, but they pay a lot of the freight in real estate taxes. They also pay HOA fees which cover all maintenance of the properties including roads in all these subdivisions, where up north its a town maintained road.

To my knowledge, unlike MA, the state isn't renting out full hotels for a year and giving them food and ebt cards either and coddling these illegals. Most of the suspect illegals I see here work mowing lawns, picking vegetables, or construction or something like that. Not sitting on their ass collecting bennies from the state. Id argue they may even pay taxes for all I know.

Odds are they cost the state something, but they also make it cheaper to do things labor wise causing some value added gain to the economy. That's where Florida and other grower states needs to be careful how they handle this.....like I said in the other thread, they aren't going to replace these people with 14 year olds mowing lawns and picking vegetables.

As I always said...Dems want illegals for votes, R's want illegals for cheap labor.

The bottom line is that illegals are costing the state money, and the money is still coming out of the state coffers, money that could be used elsewhere. medical costs alone was $660 million last year:

Also that is just the money "given away".......what is MA actually spending??....It isnt 2 billion.....its likely 4 billion when you consider all the suck on health care, education, child care and special services.....on top of that.

Not disagreeing......its not good. I just don't feel it as much here because I have good services and amenities for what I pay, electric is cheap, and everything is beautiful down here as far as roads and landscaping go. And Im not paying income taxes which adds 12K a year to my coffers.

In MA with directly taxed income and real estate, where I had a well and septic, no trash pickup, and no kids in school. My tax levy was much higher.....and I got a lot less for it. I felt the burn.

Seeing 2-3 billion of tax money go to illegals that were sleeping in local hotels and eating in local restaurants on the tax payer dime..... just a tremendous kick in the nuts.

Wait til they tell you that you can't have it / don't need it cause you saved to much in your 401k and/or have a pension along with it.

You won't be worrying about the taxes that come off of it because you won't be getting it.
That's sorta how ME did it until recently. If you had a state pension, they'd take your SS.

My parents are retired in ME and took that hit. Fortunately that got changed recently and tbe state sent them a big check to cover their SS income.

It's all such BS.

Much like Dukakis did in MA .
Roll it all in and payout the way we see fit

They did it everywhere Biden just signed that law before he got kicked out.

MIL same thing in MA...she just got a big check. But she worked her quarters in the private sector before that.

If you worked for the state your whole life though and didn't pay into SS at all, I don't think your getting anything. The state didn't send the check, it should have been from the Fed gov't, its SSI not pension.

But this is not what Im talking about....Im talking about them just taking away your SSI benefits because they feel your net worth is high enough that
you don't need them because you either were a high earner and saved....or like me and a lot of others you lived well below your means, scrimped, invested and saved.

Which basically means punish the responsible......Help the people that overspent, didn't save..etc.

Just like a college loan bailout.....some families scrimped and saved to put their kids thru college taking no loans. Others had a good old time and didn't give a shit and their kids took loans to the hilt.......in the end if you forgive college loans...your rewarding the irresponsible motherfxckers.

You are correct. My mother and mother-in-law both retired from teaching.

My mother had a couple of non-teaching jobs and paid into social security for 40+ quarters. Up until now, she has not able to collect SS. She just got a BIG check and will start getting SS.

My mother-in-law only paid into Social Security for like 12 quarters and she is not benefiting from the Fairness Act (or whatever it’s called).
