I'm looking at a used Springfield M1A Loaded, and was wondering is there anything I need to check, i.e. known problems or things to look for, that anyone is aware of? Thanks

rumor mill for new production is cracks in the cast reciever. This is just what I have read on line.

And clearly the person who did the study was unbiased even though he runs a competing business [wink]

And either way, that rifle, by the serial, must have been pretty old, one of the first ones.

Thanks for all the info. I made the plunge today and it seems to be like new. It's the Loaded model with medium carbon match barrel and black synthetic stock. Is there a way to date these? #2006** Its seems to be as it left the factory, should I still have the headspace checked? Did they have problems with headspacing out the door? I also could use a lead on a source for GI contract 20 rounders. Thanks again

Go to http://m14tfl.com

As long as they have transferred over all the old threads - there was a thread on there tracking all serial numbers and their born on date for M1A's

can you post the beginning digits of the serial number? Or send me the SN?

The database is still there - I can cross the numbers...
