Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this gun? My son (not in MA) is looking at one. I don't know what the pawn shop was asking for price.

Good? POS?

I have an XDm 9mm 3.8" full size. I love the pistol. It shoots very easy, handles very positively. The XD won't have the match barrel or heavily textured grips, but the basic gun is the same. I have run mine through a couple of classes, one of which I pounded the hell out of it, and it never missed a beat (except for an ammo problem I had with reloads, not the guns fault). I liked it so much I also picked up a .45 ACP version with 4.5" barrel. If the price is right (IMO $375-$425 for a clean used gun with all the gear) I'd say he should jump on it.

I have the .40 version with a Sturm Lake conversion barrel in 9mm. I love the firearm honestly, but my experience with handguns is limited to Beretta 92f, Sig 229DAK and misc handguns rented at the range.

I shoot 100 rounds 9mm, switch the barrel back, then 100 .40 at the range. The magazines are interchangeable (I can fit 15 9mm rounds in the .40 12 round magazine, but I get a fail to feed on that last one sometimes).

Also, I use 10 round .357 SIG magazines for both calibers....

I have a couple of XDm 9's, they shoot good. Accurate and the triggers are decent. $700 is way too much $$$.

$700? I got mine for $469 I believe, right after Sandy Hook. At Shooter's Outpost. Bud's has them for less than $400 right now new.

I've been to the pawn shop where he saw it. I'm not particularly impressed with it, but he's bought some tools there at good prices. On guns they seem high priced. In addition the have a "No guns allowed" sign on the door. Of a gun shop. The only good thing is that it's next to the only Dunkin Donuts in Alabama.

Thats a horrible price. I think i just saw them for $325 new with 3 extra mags. That said i love my sub compact. Ive owned a couple and have probably 5000 rounds through them in total.

He says they are asking $700.00. It might be new, they sell new and used guns. Seems high to me.

$700 is highway robbery for a plain-jane XD 9, even brand new. I paid less than that for my XDm .45 new at a shop, and it's more gun. Unless he's talking about their competition model, I'd run the other way from that shop.

In other news, SA recently came out with the XDm competition, which has all the attributes of the XDm's that I have, but add a 5.25" barrel, ported slide(to make sure the gun will cycle with lower powered ammo), adjustable rear sight, fiber optic front. It looks like a great gun for shooting IDPA or steel challenge. My LGS had one on the shelf, 9mm, all black for $775 last week. If I continue to get into gun games like steel challenge, I'll be looking into one, as I'm in love with the XDm's I have now.

Here we go again complaining about prices.

it's called supply vs demand

Nanny MA limits which guns are available because they can do so, thus supply on certain guns is VERY low. I agree no springfield is worth $700 but keep in mind drinking water can sell for $50/gallon if its sufficiently scarce.

Well, now you're talking a bout two totally different guns. At the risk of derailing this into "what gun's best?" land, what exactly is he looking for?

A gun. [laugh] Actually, I'm not sure. It might be a home defense gun, or it might be something for concealed carry. He has a Bersa 380 that he pocket carries sometimes, but he might be looking for something bigger. I don't think he's looking for any sort of competition gun, and despite the fact that AL is an open carry state, I don't think he's looking for something full sized.

Easy big guy...

Gary,
At 700 dollars he's better off going online and find one for around 5. Wonder why its so high. Lots of mags maybe?

Correct. He's in Alabama. He is going to go back and recheck the price to see if he read it correctly. I told him that for a couple of hundred less he could get a Sig 239. If he were more of a gun guy, I'd suggest a nice clean S&W 3rd Gen semi auto.

Here's a nice one for sale in the classifieds on NES....could probably have it shipped and transferred for $450 or so, buy a barrel and a couple of mags to have 2 guns for still less than $700
