I bought my Ruger SR45 about a year ago. I took it out about 6 times or so, ran an average of about 100 rounds or so each time always taken down cleaned, lubed properly. The last couple of times I took it out I noticed every once and a while the slide would not lock back after the mag was empty. Being my carry weapon this kind of alarms me. Is this a known issue, an easy fix I could do myself or should I be worried?

Taking a stab here by saying it's probably the magazine. The follower for some reason is not making contact with the slide stop which locks the slide back after the last round. The follower may be canted in the mag sometimes which would make it the intermittent problem you describe. Also check your magazine spring.

SR45 mag springs weaken easily over time. Mine went to mush quickly....another reason i sold my sr45 even though it shot nicely.

agree w above try a new mag or new spring see if fixed.

I experienced a similar issue with mine. While I also had an issue with it not firing/light primer strikes. I chose to send mine in.
Ruger took care of it.
Replaced slide lock, firing pin and gave it a thorough cleaning. They also included a little extra when they returned it which was much appreciated. Since I got it back I've put 6-8 hundred rounds thru it and it performed flawlessly

Wow, never even thought of the mag, makes perfect sense, great insight! What exactly did you get back extra when you sent yours back laderbuilt?

I have looked at the SR9 and Was thinking about the SR45. It sounds like there is a reason they are so inexpensive. I fired a rental Glock 21 yesterday at MFS and it was sweet. I see what the Glock hype is about.

Since Glock appear to be unavailable in MA, what are you guys looking at in a .45 outside of the 1911 style? Is SIG worth the small fortune?

if the magazine was the op's problem that happens with the best of them. i have a couple of $35 wilson mags that won't hold the slide back no way no how on any of my 1911's. i don't blame the gun, i just put those mags aside and carry on with the others that work. i've never fired a sr45 but i'm sure it's like most rugers, built like a tank and made to function with any ammo. and priced for the masses.

i like the M&P 45 and 45c. both are built excellent and shoot great.

the SR45 is also nice gun. had one for a while. got bored (as usual) so sold it. but i gotta say it felt nice. handled recoil very well. nice thin grip too ideal for smaller hands. mine had to go back to ruger for extractor replacement but as usual ruger CS got it right. thankfully the mag disconnect is easy to remove. the manual safety IMO is bullshit and annoying. overall nothing wrong with the SR45. don't be scared by the low price....it's not junk.

There's the HK45, if you have some deep pockets.

There are shitloads of Glocks in MA (it's probably one of the top 3 most popular brands in the state, despite the AG regs BS... ) stop believing the tripe and go hunting. [laugh]

Most issues with the slide not locking after the last round can be attributed to magazine issues. I have experienced this problem with Sig, S&W , and Colt and in each and every case the problem could be attributed to the magazine.

I would venture to say that the majority of semi-auto problems tend to be caused first and foremost by faulty magazines, and when I trouble shoot a problem, that's usually where I look first.

I love HK. And yea need deep pockets...

I was looking at a Sig P250 that in interchangeable between 9mm and .45. Do any of you notice an difference in accuracy if you practice with 9 and switch to 45? I read about a lot of people go to the range with 9 and switch to 45 when they carry.

I prefer federal and found both calibers seem to shoot real well.

I have since seen a bunch of pre-owned... Is it just new glocks or is it all just bad / out dated information... The G21 was really nice. I'm going to look at the classifieds.

The p250 isn't the easiest pistol to shoot accurately if that's your concern. Long double action only trigger pull. The MA versions additionally are upwards of 10lbs. The free state ones aren't as heavy but it's still a long pull.

I bought one brand new I had it for about 3 months. During that time I ran about 1200 rds. Through it. I had to send it back to Ruger 2x for new mags, mag latch, slide catch.

Every 400rds or so the slide catch, magazines, and mag latch would start failing. It would not hold open on last round, the slide catch would not hold open reliably regardless if a magazine was in it or not. If you even shook the gun a bit it would close. And the worst was the mag catch would stop working and the mag would jettison out of the gun when you touched off a round.

I sent it back Ruger fixed it no questions paid for everything... It worked great for like 1 range trip then had the same problems. I sent it back... Ruger again was great they replaced the whole slide and both magazines. It worked for one range trip... then I sent it back and told them to keep it and send me my money back. They sent me a completely new gun and I sold it.

There is a reason they can be bought for 350 NIB. They are terrible. Get a G21, Sig220, HK45, or a decent 1911 etc.

I have heard that. I'm not sure it's the pistol I will be getting now.

i also noticed some issues w slide lock not getting a good grab on the slide.

i have a P250 full size in .45acp with the free-state trigger. it feels like a smooth revolver trigger. not hard to shoot at all just need to learn how to stage it like a revolver. the MA-model P250 triggers are unshootable....pull is waay to heavy and stacks like a biatch.

am considering listing my P250 in the classifieds since i never shoot it.
