One of my mags for my full sized SR9 no longer holds the slide open after firing the last round, or simply racking the slide on the empty mag.

all of the mags (3) are the MASS cripple 10 rounders and have a huge chunk of plastic on the bottom.

Visually the mags look identical and load up the same, but This is my IDPA gun so I NEED the slide to lock open

Ideas?

There clean as a whistle, took em apart and cleaned em all really good, then, when that failed, came running to NES.

Any and all help appreciated

check the springs on it, i never ever had any problems with mine but that means nothing to the thousands out there. i would inspect the springs on the mags and go from there. its just one mag? i would contact Ruger after checking out the mag myself and see if they have a solution. they are very reasonable.

If all 3 mags act the same, I'd look at the gun itself. Do you use the slide lock as a slide release? I know Ruger doesn't like you to do that because it wears it out prematurely. You can get a replacement on the cheap from Ruger. Is the slide lock a little too gummy for the follower to push up all the way?

only one mag does it.

The other two are perfect. I do use the slide lock to send it home, but i doubt thats the issue, where the other 2 are fine.

I will move the springs around see it the problem moves with the spring or stays with the mag.

thanks guys, will keep you posted

Update:

Fixed it!

There was a tiny caked on dirt or grime or something on the bottom of one of the followers where the spring goes into the follower. I dont know how I missed this the first time cleaning but it was a tiny spec of dirt.

It was so tiny, but I guess that is all it takes some times.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Gave the follower and the spring a good bath in hopes and scrubbed em up with a tooth brush. Good as day 1

Thanks for the help.

just remember bud, rugers run forever. but cleanliness is godliness!

Yeah Ill say, got easily close to 6K down the pipe not one issue, and I bought it used, from a buddy who bought it used.

Freaking thing is awesome. Eats everything, and just wow, really made me love Ruger that much more.
