I understand that a carbine is a "shortened" rifle. I am looking to get a Daniel Defense Omega free-float handguard for my M&P15 MOE. Is the M&P15 MOE considered a carbine? This seems like a dumb question, but I can't find a solid answer.

Will this: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Daniel-Defense-Omega-Rail-Carbine-Free-Float-FDE-p/dd%20omega%207%20fde.htm

Fit this: http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=11101&langId=-1&productId=91449&tabselected=tech&isFirearm=Y&parent_category_rn=33803

Thanks for any answers & your patience

The MOE is a carbine. It has a 16" barrel with a carbine length gas system. You shouldn't have a problem with the Omega rail you linked.

Bushmaster makes a dissipator barrel thats 16'' long , but I believe uses a full length gas system , basically a 16" barrel with a extended sight

No. The dissipator actually uses a shaved gas block underneath handguards and a full FSB up front for the handguards to lock into.
