About 15 years ago, I bought an Intratec Tec-9 Mini. It was just before the 1994 AWB, and I got if for cheap through RSR Wholesale. I fired it one time, and put it away forever ... that is, until now.

I have become separated from the original papers but I recall that I bought a Mini Stainless. Now, a friend tells me "No, that's a Tec-Kote finish."

Well, damned if I know. It doesn't look smooth and shiney like, say, a SW60 in stainless. But I've never seen, as far as I know, Tec-Kote.

Can anyone tell me from this photo what the heck it is? I need to know so I can price the thing for sale and get a grown-up's handgun.

Seems to be quite a bit of info here, including the Tek-Kote option

Thanks Jeep. I did look at the information at rec.guns, (although I could not get the link you provided to open) but still couldn't quite nail down the issue with my Tec-9. Based on pictures I've been able to find, it doesn't really look like Tec-Kote, but it's not as bright as stainless either. It almost looks like a brushed stainless, or just a crappy finish.

There aren't a lot of Intratec specialists out there though, that much I can say. I took this to a dealer here and he didn't even want to touch it, like he might get cooties or something.

The trigger, mag catch and other pins don't look like normal blued TEC 9 parts...

Does a magnet stick to it???

Trigger and mag catch aren't blued. Magnet sticks great to the barrel, trigger and catch. But not as well to the upper receiver. Does that even make sense?

Looking at the info in the link Jeep posted I believe confirmed my first thought... There are no stainless TEC9s... It was offered with a "stainless finish" AKA stainless paint.

I'm not to surprised a magnet doesn't stick good, it was probably made with the lowest iron content metal they could find that would hold its shape.

If I was a dealer (I play one on TV...) I wouldn't touch it either. :)

The dealer's concern wasn't with the quality. They were never marketed as anything but cheap. His concern was whether or not it was legal for him to sell it. Pre-ban Tec-9 ... shouldn't be a problem I would think.

Maybe I'll just put it back on the shelf for another 15 years ...

Definitely legal for a dealer to take in and sell to a MA resident with a LTC-A. Considering they where ban by name in 1994 and Intratec went out of business shortly there after, they're all pre-ban.

I think there's an AB-10 (After Ban?) out there. Looks like a Tec-9 without the threaded barrel. But in any event, the Tec-9 is a saleable item I think.

Yep, AB-10s where made after the ban went into effect. They look like your gun, but without the threaded barrel, and shipped with a 10 round mag. Intratec was sued out of existence in 1996 or so.

Just joined this site after snooping around last night trying to get some questions answered about my Tec! I have the exact same gun that is pictured and was also wondering what I have. Don't know if it's the stainless model or the tec cote, but on further investigation, I believe we both have the tec cote version!
I would love to find a barrel shroud in tec cote if anyone has one out there! Don't know if I want to sell my weapon or not, but it has had maybe 100 bullets at the most shot out of it since purchased back in 10/94. It's a tec dc 9 ( I believe that's how u say it)! Anyone know what the going price would be? It's in perfect condition, not even a scratch on it!!!

You've got a lot of nerve calling that a "weapon". [wink] Mine is sold and gone. It fetched around $600. I forget, exactly. And I'm pretty sure it was stainless, or what passed for stainless at Intratec.
