That's just wrong

And to top it off, I just got the following EMail today:
Hello:

My name is Anita Sorrentino and I am the Disney Representative for your state. I wanted to let you know that we have an excellent selection of safety educational videos, one of which is called “Under The Gun” dealing with gun safety for children. If you do educate in the safety of guns, I thought this might be of interest for you. All our titles come with Public Performance Rights which will allow you to show the program (as long as you do not charge admission). Below is the write up about the VHS program. Please let me know if this is an interest for you, an order form is attached. If you would like a catalog of all our educational videos, please let me know. I would be happy to send it your way!

Under The Gun-Award Winner

Kids and guns-they’re a deadly combination. In this live-action video, a gun that is “safety” locked up falls into the hands of fascinated youngsters, with dire consequences. Use this video as a springboard for frank discussions among children and adults about the dangers and seductive power of firearms.

28 minutes – grades 4-9th grade - $39.00 – VHS – 68005

A shipping charge of $7.50 would apply.

Thanking you in advance, Anita

I don't know what Walt Disney's views on the 2nd ammendment would have been, but he would probably be disgusted to see what Disney has become it the past ten years or so...

F-ck the Mouse.

I'll be sure to pack my K frame when I take my daughter there.

I left my G27 in the carsafe, as I wasn't sure if they had metal detectors (they don't) and really didn't want to carry through the park, on the rides.. [thinking]

I was surprised they didn't have metal detectors.. 6 Flags in Springfield does... go figure.

No metal detectors, but their security is above average, so if
you intend to carry there, it should be very well concealed. IIRC
they sometimes search bags at the gate so off body carry is completely
out. Security has been known to zero in on people with folders clipped
to their pockets, etc, and deny them entry to the park. So if you do carry
in the park, you have to be extremely discreet about it. If you are discovered
you will probably be "escorted" out and any tickets/passes revoked. Some of
those passes can be very expensive, as well. Most decide it's not worth
the effort/risk.

IMO their anti gun policies are retarded, but chances are the
male will lose big time in the "we're not going to disney because
they're a bunch of anti communists" argument in the household. [laugh]

I don't know what Walt's 2A position was or if he had one, but I do know that they were never particularly worried about knives or firearms back when he was running things. I haven't been to either Disneyland or Disneyworld in years, but fondly remember the shooting galleries on Main Street, Frontierland, and later (IIRC) Adventureland back in the 50's and 60's.

Wrong. They ALWAYS search bags at the gate.

Security has been known to zero in on people with folders clipped to their pockets, etc, and deny them entry to the park.
The next time that happens to me will be the first. I also usually carry a Leatherman tool/Maglight belt holder, and they've never even blinked at it.

Are we talking about the same park? WDW?

security?

I went to disney back in June. Each time we entered any of the parks, my wife and daughters had to allow security to go through their bags. During this time, nobody questioned what I had in my pockets or my cargo style shorts. If I brought in a small camera case, I had to open it for inspection. I quickly realized that I could have brought whatever CCW I wanted.

I was not about to point out this flaw to security for feer of the spanish inquisition. But, I had to bite my lip every time I walked through "security".

On the other hand, we did have a great time. My sister runs a travel agency and hooked us up with the best deals. My advice : get the meal package.

Back when they first opened in the 50's (I was there the first week, and pretty frequently up into the 60's), that was really the only security inspection at the gates. Because of the margins they make on food and drink sales, there was no way they were going to let you bring your own lunch into the park. For cheap bastards like us, you could always take a lunch break and tailgate at your car in the lot, then go back in. They definitely weren't looking for guns and knives; they were looking for sandwiches and Nehi.

So did 6 Flags in New Jersey when I was there 12 years ago. Very close to Philly and they apparently had some gang problems. It might a corporate wide policy.

As we used to call them "The Snack Police". [smile]

Wrong. They ALWAYS search bags at the gate.

Then I stand corrected on that- I wasn't 100% sure what
the policy was.

Are we talking about the same park? WDW?

Yup, WDW.

IMO, maybe they don't really care too much about
leathermans and flashlights. Maybe they think folders or
assisted open folders are more "evil" or some crap.
