The only man in the World who DOESN'T WANT AN AR

I think the AR platform is a pain in the ass to clean, but I still love it. Easy to shoot, shoulders nice, and lots of cool after market stuff to personalize it. As a kid I first saw it on the TV show SWAT and it was love at first sight. In the Army I've carried the M16A1 full auto, and then the M16A2 Burst(gay), and now the M4 still with the gay 3 round burst. I remember a live fire in Egypt in 1985 when I rocked nine 30 round mags out of my M16A1 and the barrel was starting to turn white hot. I probably screwed up the barrel, but didn't care. It was a CALFEX and we didn't even have any targets. We were just putting on a show for some Egyptian big shots.

I have two AR's (5.56, 6.8) and everyone with a decent size collection needs at least one as well as a 1911, and M1 Garand just because they are American classics. Oh and because they piss off anti's more then any firearm for some reason.

Just noticed this thread.

OP, you are not alone. I too spent enough time with an M-16 in the AF. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd probably get one (or two) but I have no desire to own one right now.

However, with that said, I will NOT stand to have a bunch of antis tell me that I can't have one.

I must state that the AR bug hasn't got me (yet), I'm more into the bigger calibers.
I qualified Expert with an A1 in 81 or 82 with Co. B 2/32, then had to re-qualify prior to FTX "Brave Lions" in 83 although
I was issued a 1911A1 from 1st Bde's HHC for the duration of the FTX. I still remember the SFC's name with whose rifle I
shot in 83: Peña-Díaz, as in PITA[rofl] That was at the Butzbach range.
