Thousands more gun dealers must run background checks on buyers as Biden administration moves to close 'doggone dangerous' loophole in the law and regulate shadow gun market

  • An estimated 23,000 individuals are engaged in unlicensed gun dealing in the United States, and the rule will impact tens of thousands of gun sales per year
A rule requiring gun dealers to obtain federal licenses and conduct background checks regardless of where they sell guns has been finalized and will soon go into effect, Vice President Kamala Harris announced Thursday.

'Every person in our nation has a right to live free from the horror of gun violence. I do believe that. And yet, today, one in five Americans has a family member who was killed by gun violence,' Harris said.

Hours before the announcement, six people were shot, including children close to the White House when suspects shot into a crowd.

The number of children killed by guns in the U.S. hit a high in 2021, mass shootings have surged in recent years and the country overall has much higher rates of gun death than other wealthy nations.

'There is a large and growing black market of guns being sold by people in the business of dealing and doing it without a license, and therefore they are not running background checks the way the law requires,' ATF director Steven Dettelbach said this week.

'It’s not safe for innocent, law-abiding Americans. In fact, it’s doggone dangerous,' he added.

WTF is this? Are they counting people whose ancestors died in wars?
