I recently came across a 2nd-gen Glock 19 that has some type of lubricating substance located under the slide. It looks like a creamy, bluish-white substance, which looks almost like toothpaste. Any idea what this could be? The slide works perfectly, but I haven't had a chance to field strip the model yet. (This was recovered from the home of a relative who passed away and was sitting in a safe for some time, I believe. Most of his firearms were kept in excellent condition.)

Appears to be probably an early-90s second generation G19 with an alpha serial of "AHP." Had a high-cap mag of 16 rounds sitting in it, too.

From the factory they have a copper colored Anti-Seize all over the inside of the slide. Stuff gets everywhere too. Other than that i assume that its some type of grease.

Yeah, I think it's some type of oil or grease. I've just never come across one with that coloring before. Runs the length of the slide, but nothing appears to be damaged on the gun, as best I can tell without doing a proper field strip.

Slide Glide looks a lot like that. Depending on the viscosity, I have seen a couple of shades of blue.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head, BossHarley. It could very well be Slide Glide. I stripped it down and everything looks good.

I'd bet it's White Lithium Grease, but, I have heard stories of people using toothpaste as a grinding compound to mate parts.

If it's gritty, I'd clean it out before I shot it.

Can I taste you instead, Jen?

I hope you are friends or something otherwise that is not very respectful, or appropriate. I apologize if you two have an understanding were that is acceptable. Dont mean to butt in... but that seams a little over the top. Maybe Im just a little old fashioned.

feel free to but in, it was rude, and disrespectful, and i'm sure when my husband reads it, he'll feel the same way.. I have no idea who that guy is..[frown]

Its probably moly grease. Its very good high pressure grease, also used in CV joints on cars. Rebuild kits come with a small packet of it and its light blue in color. I use it on my Dillon press.

SHE told me to TASTE the substance found inside the gun... I thought my response was rather apt.

Have your husband read it - if he's that uptight abut things, then you probably shouldn't be posting anything on the Internet.

She asked me to taste an unknown substance found within a firearm, which is potentially dangerous to one's health and I'm the "bad guy." Grow up people and understand the context in which the remark was made. (It was a comeback to her rather unhelpful and lame remark.)

You guys are a tad bit too dramatic for me. But for those who had a constructive response, thank you.

Obviously you offended her, even if you didn't mean to. The classy thing to do would be to apologize.

Cut Phaedo some slack... I think you all are siding with the skirt a bit too much on this one. She offered nothing constructive to his post and advised that he ingest and unknown substance found within a used firearm. Clearly Phaedo's response was a comeback to her unhelpful advice.

Hey, Jen, if you don't want a comeback like that, don't post nonsense about tasting lubricants found within a used firearm when someone is just asking for an opinion on what the substance may be.

And your husband, WTF? He "...won't be happy." Oh no! Are you threatening Phaedo?

And she obviously offended me by asking me to potentially poison myself. When she apologizes, so shall I.

Most of you ganged-up on me and gave me negative feedback, but a few understood where the comment came from. Take it within the context of the post and her advice to "...taste it."

You guys are ready to burn someone at the stake for the slightest indiscretion. "Witch! Witch! OMG, BAN HIM!"

First of all neg repping me and calling me way too dramatic was just stupid. You said it looked like toothpaste, so yoiu were wrong to accuse me of telling you to poison yourself.. Tasting toothpaste will not poison you.. As far as your comment to me, it was rude.. Do you have a sister, daughter, or wife?? How would you feel if some jackoff on a forum said that to her? My first instinct was to kick you in the balls... Unfortunately the internet doesn't allow me that luxury..
What I said makes me a smartass, i admit, but what you said makes you a grade A ..jacka$$..

I never use my husband to fight my battles.. So no, I am quite capable of taking care of myself.. I was just saying that my husband wouldn't appreciate a loser talking to his wife like that.. And I am a human being not a skirt..

Does your husband like that you're giving advice to poison someone over the 'Net? Calm, down, lady. You've stirred up some drama and just let it go. The guy said it "looked like toothpaste," which was how he chose to describe the look. You then made a smart remark about it - and he can back with an even smarter one, which you took offense to do.

Typical female behavior: Stir the pot, cause drama, and then step back and act as if they did nothing wrong.
