Is there any difference between the Troy Defense 5.56 Carbine that Dick's Sporting Goods was selling for $799, and the Troy Defense Carbine that dealers are now asking over $2000 for? The rifles seem exactly the same to me. I imagine Troy has got quite a few of these things on hand, being that Dick's pulled out (ha!) of their exclusive deal with Troy.

1) Dick's never sold any.

2) Supply and demand has changed dramatically.

3) If you can find a similar carbine for $800, buy it. But I'm guessing that you can't. I'm also betting that you can't actually find a Troy Defense Carbine for sale.

1.) Maybe not every Dick's sold them, but Dick's was the sole retailer

2.) Hasn't effected wholesale pricing

3.) A shop I visted recently has armloads or Troy Defense Carbines

1.) It was on every Dick's flyer we saw from here to Virginia when prices started to skyrocket. I think they sold quite a few. Needless to say, no one took delivery.

2.) Actually it would. Dick's probably had a contract to buy them from Troy for a certain amount of money. Any wholesaler would not get that pricing unless they had the selling power of Dick's. Wholesale pricing is largely effected by the amount you can sell as well, so I doubt anyone other than Dick's, Bass Pro or Wal-Mart would even have a chance to negotiate them that low. Also, now the buying market is huge and supply and demand is marketing and business 101.

3.) Sounds awesome. Which shop so we can all go buy them up? I can't see the picture btw.

The distributor's pricing that I'm privy to shows no dramatic fluctuation in pricing for normally stocked items. Availability is whole other story.

Yes, Troy supposedly made a financial commitment to supplying Dick's, and now must attempt to recoup. Other manufacturers are not all in the same boat.

A & J Sporting Goods in Housatonic, MA has plenty of them. They also had some Colts, a DPMS, a Bushmaster, Remington, S&W PC.

To me, the Troy carbine simply doesn't seem worthy of such a premium price, regardless of demand.
