I would try to save up $300 or $400 more and find a real one. A military contract one will also appreciate in value.

I just used the search feaure on the listing for the upcoming Amoskeag Auction in Manchester, NH. I see 19 U.S. M1 Carbines listed!
4 Winchester, 6 Inland, Rockola, Nat'l Postal meter, Standard products, Quality hardware and one Auto-Ordnance. ( That one has a folding paratrooper stock. )
Also of note are 29 M1 Garands and 5 M1A type rifles!
