You should always start a food shortage by eating the neighborhood cats. You get an immediate dinner AND the cats aren't eating all the squirrels and rabbits you'll likely want to eat in the future.

dogs have more meat on them ... just saying.

People used broad leaves to wipe ass (make sure not poison ivy), there are many ways. Some even suggested river rocks, but I never tried. Romans used a sponge. If all fails, that's why you keep a copy of Das Capital or old subscriptions of Pravda.

Ive always heard old phone books. Papers relatively thin so more comfortable than a sheet of notebook paper I would imagine.

Iran had a reasonable democratically elected secular government, and they made the fatal error of starting nationalizing the oil companies. The CIA decided to overthrow their government and install a dictator, the Shah (which means king). We basically owe the entire Islamist nightmare we've got today to the terrible decisions carried out by the CIA. In a lot of respects, the CIA has been the one of the most effective enemies the United States has ever had to deal with. They couldn't have screwed the middle east and the western world over worse if Vladmir Putin himself had told them what to do.

I have been tracking this for a while. I have a place in Panama which is where many went, as well as Colombia. I have spoken first hand with a number of people who have lots of relatives, and they say it's worse than most even know and getting worse. BTW, government disarmed the population in 2012 (1) , at which point it went from bad to worse to FUBAR. When will people learn? US is in tough spot here, damned if we do, damned if we don't. Those I have spoken to said they wished the US would do what they did for Panama, but that's a small sample size, they tended to be more educated and wealthier and it would be tough to justify internationally. Drop an A team or 20 to develop and train and arm a resistance?

Sorry, Im tired of the US dropping A teams all over the place. Ends up with us getting bogged down in a fight with our hands tied, looking like the bad guys, while accomplishing next to nothing other than destabilizing whatever region our latest third world adventure is in. The cherry on the top is after the smoke clears, we invite the bottom of the barrel of whatever prehistoric hell hole we just blew up to come live with us, (even though they hate our guts) so we can pay all their bills for the next 10 generations. Venezuela has the government that they asked for.
 
omfg...did we not learn anything from our past? Let Venezuela fail from its own socialistic weight. We should not get involved in anything more than economically embargoing their goods, and maybe the CIA funding some alternate political groups--just to stir the pot a little.

Easier said than done. It's in our back yard, many Venezuelans are coming to the US, and surrounding countries creating a major burden, a full scale humanitarian disaster (which appears right around the corner) would be very destabilizing to the region, and have ripple effects, that will impact us directly or indirectly, likely cause a massive vacuum crime syndicates will fill, and as 'Murican's we tend to give a damn when kids and such are starving to death and such. I fully agree that bad choices made, like arming "moderate rebels" in Syria when there's no such thing as a moderate rebel in that region and so forth. I'm not advocating either for military intervention (though Panama went onto be the economic power house of the region after we did and do not hate us...), but ignoring such a thing in our own back yard, no matter how isolated some may think they are, also probably a bad play. I don't know what the answers are, but watching it devolve into total collapse is not in our best interest in my view.

A hell of a lot more so than places we continue to have a presence we probably don't need to. Regardless, the stuff happening there can and will impact us. Again, not claiming to have the answers, but total hands off approach has and does often cause more problems than not, and there's plenty of history to support that too. Something between nation building and isolationism exists in there some place.
 
I was reminded today about the plight of Venezuela when I browsing coins on ebay this morning. As recently as 1980 Venezuela was minting 100 Bolivar silver coins. Those coins have a melt value today of $10.61 US or 353,666.67 fiat Bolivars.
 
Just air drop all the confiscated guns from Australia, Norway, CA and under aged 2nd class adults in FL. They can solve their own problems quickly with the right tools.

There's no doubt in my mind that a majority of law enforcement would side with a dictatorial government and against the people in a desperate situation. It's in their very nature, otherwise they wouldn't be where they are today.
I do not think that the military would do the same.

Very sad. When I worked for BCPD, numerous students were from Venezuela, some of the most beautiful women on campus.
