Wallyworld Federal Ammo OK for Garand?

I was requested to pick up some Garand food at my earliest convenience....is the stuff at Wallyworld OK?

Not unless it's the Federal 30-06 ammo made for the Garand like this:

I don't recall Wallyworld stocking this ammo. Does the Garand owner have an adjustable gas plug to safely shoot any 30-06 ammo?

If it doesn't say it's loaded for an M1 it is not safe to shoot. If you can only get current loadings buy a schuster plug.schuster adjustable gas plug. Then you can shoot whatever you'd like.

I had not seen the ammo - my son wanted it for "his" M1 - I figured that the ammo that an M1 could eat would be marked....

My '03 doesn't care!

Why is that? lower pressure stuff? I didn't know about this. Not that I own one.

Commercial 30-06 is loaded hotter than USGI and it's possible you could bend the op-rod in an M1, so it is suggested not to use commercial ammo not loaded specifically for the M1 Garand.

No so much hotter as the burning speed of the powder. Since its gas operated, the pressure spike has to be within a certain range so as not to damage it.

The Federal 30-06 Garand load usually isn't too tough to find.
