Ok Ladies and GENTS. I searched and was not successful in finding the answer so assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am being told that Smith & Wesson no longer distributes Walthers. Is this true? If this is correct then why are a couple of my LGS still able to get PPK, PPQ, P22 etc but no PPS.

S&W and Walther cut their ties. This was Walther's doing as they wanted to move their own base of operations to the US, for sales and tax purposes within the country. This only happened a few months ago, so you may still see some S&W branded Walthers out there.

Walther will provide their firearms for sale. The PPS is a bit of a mystery, when swapping out my 20 POUND TRIGGER on my MA PPS I lost a part to it which was never recovered. I sent in the firearm late January of this year to Walther's repair, since only a single gunsmith in MA would work on it (I called DOZENS). Since I didn't want to spend a significant amount of money on shipping, labor, and shipping again, I sent it to Walther, who told me they would have parts in early Feb. I've called every week since, and every call they push back the date they would recieve Walther parts.

To put it simply, I don't think they're getting ANYTHING PPS related any time soon. My Walther PPS has been in repair now for 4 months, it was in my posession about two weeks (I'm a good shooter, but there was no physical way around that trigger pull. You shoot 1 foot low at 15-25 feet no matter who shot it). When I last called the rep got so fed up with me calling every week for the past 12 weeks he said "It says two more weeks, but I just don't know man. I can't tell you." which isn't a good sign. Also, if you live in MA, do NOT get a PPS unless you get that trigger job lined up before hand. I spent a good 15-20 hours calling, driving to, and begging gunsmiths to do it. I even offered an experienced one $200 (The single part is $20) and got refused by every single reputable gunsmith in the state less one in the far, far west side of mass. I have, however, heard stories from lucky SOBs who's "H" disconnector lead to only a 10-12 pound pull, which is easily manageable.

Dam......your still dealing with that?

Hopefully when you get it back you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

It is my EDC and one of my favorite pistols.

Yep. I call every week. The rep is always pissed, it's always the same guy, and he usually says "We got everything but PPS parts are in two weeks from now" every time I call.

I ask for a supervisor, he tells me there isn't one. I ask if I can ship the part to them and he tells me I would need to have them ship the gun back, include the part with the gun, and ship it back to them which would put me at the "back of the line" and I'd have to cover costs of ALL shipping (While Earl's repair won't work on it, they DO have the part in stock). I ask him if I can talk to anyone else and he tells me it's him and the gunsmith who's always busy.

I'm litterally at the point where I suspect they don't even have it, or they're ****ing with me, or they're beating me around the bush because they don't want to reassemble a bag of loose PPS parts. I'm completely frustrated in this situation, I don't want to be out $100+ and 4 months for nothing, and the whole point of me getting a PPS was so I could have an easy to carry 9mm UNTIL I got to NH, where I would get a Glock 26. When I got the PPS I was unemployed. Now I'm employed and moved to NH.

It burned a hole of rage into my brain that I can't get mad anymore.

Hmmm dave santurri ( I may have misspelled his name) installed my disconnector in my pps. I had a out of state friend call for the part and they sent it to him free of charge. This was 6 months ago
The trigger is nice now

David Santurri was the gunsmith I offered $200 to do the install for. He refused. I've had him do roughly $2000 worth of work for myself, my family, and friends. I offered him $200 when the part only costs $20 and asked if he would only swap out the parts and he wouldn't.

When I spent 4 hours just getting the disconnector in, nevermind reassembling (Which failed, mind you), I really don't blame him. Any "big name" gunsmith in the state, I contacted. There was 5-6 that NES recommended after they had gotten PPS trigger jobs done by them, all of who refused to do the work for me. I could have done it myself if the spring that was lost wasn't the size of a ball in a ball point pen and had to be compressed and placed in a two-halved shell (Unbelievable nightmare working with that spring)

It's beyond that point, though. I really don't want to pay for four total trips of 2 day air, plus labor. I'm hoping to just get it reassembled by Walther at which point it will be good enough or I can sell it to try to recover from this nightmare of an experience, which is arguably my worst firearm purchase (I think my BG380 beats this horror story)

WOW Shooter. I don't have those problems but I do have to say I've been waiting on my PPS to come back from my GS. I dropped it off in MAR for the trigger and night sights. He did say it's gonna be awhile cause Mepro makes the sights for it and he'll be shocked if they are not on BO. Well here it is MAY and he is still waiting on the sights from Mepro. Mine us chambered in .40 S&W. I want another one chambered in 9mm.

I have noticed that there are just no Walthers anywhere any more.
I have not seen any PPS for sale or PPK variants.

Kind of looking for a ppk blue in 380..They seem to no longer exist..

I haven't seen a ppk .380 since December 2012 when I was in FL. It was used though, but I don't see many Walthers anymore except for 9mm PPQs, P22s and some times ww2 Walthers 9mm pistols.

The FFL close to me has a couple Walther handguns in stock. I refered a buddy there to buy the PPQ 9mm..If I don't buy it first. I'm over due to buy another Walther. I have a P22 and a G22 (bullpup .22LR). Great guns and IMO a Walther P22 is a must have. Shooter, I didn't know S&W and Walther "split up." Walthers probably better off solo anyway.
I'm a gunsmith but I don't have much time with working on Walthers. My G22 is a safe queen now that .22LR ammo is about as rare as an honest politician. Maybe I'll spend some time taking her down and putting her back together. I know Ruger P series 9mms inside and out, as well as AR-15s, Beretta 92 series handguns, Hi-Point Carbines and pistols, Mossberg shotguns and Savage bolt actions. Hopefully, I'll have my FFL and shop set up by December.

Master Shooter

I am not sure who you spoke to out here in the sticks of western mass but there is a shop in south hadley. The name is Darkhorse Gun Smithing (they are on NES). They are awsome guys my PPS was having an issue failing to reset the trigger and they had it straightened out in a week with no crazy price tag because its a walther. I have 750 rounds through it since they have worked on it and not one single problem.

Resurrecting this thread because I just bought a PPS they are being shipped from Fort Smith now. They seem pretty available.

Mine has the S connector so I'm not dealing with trigger issues and the trigger is far better than the Shield.

I ordered an internal lock key for the P22 (so I could unlock it once and for all, dumb design), and I talked to a guy in Arkansas.

My PPS has never had an issue after about 500 rds, trigger is heavy, though.

Also midway has 8 rd mags for the PPS on sale for 30 bucks.

After some range time with both the shield and PPS. I have to say the PPS is really nice. For me it fits better and I shoot it better than than the shield. It will replace my 642 which I thought would never be replaced.

were did you get it? how much? I wanted one but couldn't find one so ended up getting a shield

Mastershooter - I'm not sure why you don't ship the gun back to Walther? If you are worried about the shipping cost, bring it back to the dealer you got it from .

A FFL can ship a PPS in a USPS Flat rate small box for $5.35. If you bought it from him, he should take care of you.

It wild be pretty awesome if they came out with a PPS in 45.. If they are actually being made here maybe they'll cater to US tastes a bit?

We could hope.

They aren't being made here, they're being distributed by a US based subsidiary (still imported from Germany).

I do think we'll see better availability of Walther firearms under this new arrangement. I've started to see them pop up again now a little more in shops.

AFAIK Walther doesn't make any handguns chambered in .45, although S&W did build a .45 variant of the SW99. So the engineering has been done to make a .45 version of the P99, although S&W probably owns it.

I love my PPS, I find it very reliable and accurate. I use it at our club idpa matches and usualy place in the top 3, thats while using an iwb holster, tul ammo with 7 & 8 round magazines. The PPS still puts me in the stock service pistol class where everyone else has 4"+ length barrels, speed holsters and 10 round magazines. Novembers match had me in 3rd behind a guy on Samsons shooting team. So what I am saying is it gets the job done.

Yes 9mm. I had (up until last weekend) a XDM 9mm I would shoot also but this year our club added stages so we can't make 2 runs through anymore. I decided to keep using the PPS since it is my edc, figure it's best for me to practice with what I carry since afterall there is no money or fame on the line with our matches.

We have a new PPS 9mm S&W brand available for sale. These guns are more expensive then others brands in there size $699.00. Also most of us in the Mass. gunsmith world have done a few trigger jobs on these guns and they are a PITA and not worth doing for what you can charge.
We also have a new machine engraved PPKS for sale for $725.00 this was the last of these guns to come out of the S&W vault. This gun comes in a wooden presentation box and also has the black plastic box and the cardboard box it was packed in. These guns are near impossable to find and priced right at $725.00.

Do you guys have any P99s on hand? I have a friend in CT who is looking for one. They seem nearly unobtainable.

Don

I have a hard time even finding magazines for my p99. I have seen some occasionally for sale on the board here and on gunbroker, but not nearly as popular as other models.

I had a PPS 9mm. I did the trigger job with the new disconnector myself. It was difficult but I got it done. The trigger was ok after that but I never got used to the feel of the gun. The magazine catch just didn't feel right. The Glock 19 is quite a bit larger than the PPS, but that's what I carry now when I'm in a compact 9mm mood.
