Walther PPS 9mm and .40 S&W

In my mind, the PPS and the G19 are in a completely different class of gun.

The G19 is much fatter and heavier. It also holds 15 rounds vs 7 in its magazine.

A closer comparison would be with the Kahr P9 or the Ruger LC9.

I own a P9 and a G19. Sometimes I just don't feel like dealing with the weight of the G19.

The G19 isn't actually much heavier, at least before it's loaded. It is thicker, though.

Good point. Just for yucks, I Spent a minute with a postal scale, my G19 and my Kahr P9, which is pretty close to PPS weight.

One surprise is the difference in the weight of the holsters used in each gun. Both are IWB but because of the weight of the Glock, it uses 2 clips and the Kahr uses 1 clip.

So here it is
..............................................G19.............Kahr P9
Loaded, in its holster................37.0................26.8
Loaded, gun only......................30.8................22.6
Mag out of gun.........................21.8.................17.4
Loaded Mag...............................9.2..................5.2

I've got my PPS at work I could throw on the postal scale but the scale is in the common area between all the offices, that might not go over so well. Maybe tonight everyone will leave at 5 and I can do it when I stay late for the daily close on server.

Edit: Our numbers won't be too relevant since our ammo may be different, I carry 147gr and 7rnd magazine. Difference with 7 rounds and 124gr is just under a half ounce.

Agreed that the G19 and the PPS are far from similar as carry guns go. I've carried a full size steel 1911 for over 13 years so carrying the G19 is like a nice break for me.

I got myself what I considered to be the best carry 1911 you could buy. Or at least one of the best. A bobtailed, alloy framed nighthawk Talon II. What a wonderful gun. But it was too heavy for me. It wasnt that I consciously thought it was too heavy. I just never carried it. I'd always reach for the Kahr. For me the G19 is an experiment in moving up. Ha.

Do you guys have any P99s on hand? I have a friend in CT who is looking for one. They seem nearly unobtainable.

Don

I'm pretty sure Pullman has one or two of the compact type....

And I paid no where near 699.00 for my PPS s type....
