so my g/f knows im into the whole survival thing and for my birthday she bought me a few toys...one of them being a water filter.

i have no idea if its good or not but its swiss made so i assume its pretty decent...have any of you guys heard of it?

katadyn hiker pro microfilter backcountry series

should i keep it or exchange it for something else?

I personally like the MSR Miniworks...but it's a pain because the filter size is very very small....aka water has a hard time going through it sometimes.

Find a pool of stagnant water. A pool likely to contain giardia, coliform and any number of other bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasitic organisms.

Filter a couple of quarts of water.

Drink the water.

Call me back in a week or so. I'll let you know what I think. [wink]

Katadyn are great quality, you got a good filter there.

I took a Sawyer filter to Mexico on my last vacation - used it to filter the "not for drinking" tap water all week long without problems. I've also tried it on the cruddy skeeter infested water in the woods behind my house and it worked great.

I have been using these filters guiding groups for 10+ years! Top notch quality filter. I have never had to send one back, but they have sent me parts kits free of charge to replace out a warn out pump cup.
I trust my family and my clients to them.
