What is it?

A buddy of mine is inheriting a rifle from his grandfather and we're not sure what it is. All I know is it's a hunting rifle, made by Remington in .284 Winchester. It is a bolt action with a removable 5 round magazine. Any ideas what model Remington it is?

The .284 Winchester cartridge was released in the 1960's, so it's probably a Model 700. It's not a real popular cartridge, but it's still available, and the ballistics compare to the other non-magnum 7 mm. rounds like the 7mm.-08 and the .280 Remington.

Thanks Woodstock.... Did they ever make a model 700 that had a detachable 5 round magazine?

It may have been converted to take a detachable mag or perhaps it was made in their custom shop
